Estamos escribiendo una guía sobre la multilingualidad en los sitios Drupal. Está escrita en Inglés y traducida a Español y Alemán. La misma enseña cómo utilizar el módulo i18n y cómo administrar casos especiales en los cuales no es tan obvio cómo localizar.
A menudo, el traductor pregunta cómo traducir nombres de elementos en las pantallas del administrador. Normalmente, elegimos tener el nombre en Español y el original, en Inglés, como comentario.
Lo que deseo saber es qué lenguaje utiliza normalmente en las páginas del administrador. ¿Utiliza la interface traducida al Español o mantiene los nombres originales en Inglés?

Generalmente el backoffice lo mantengo en ingles al menos que el cliente lo especifique.

Another vote for English
No surprise that I like English for admin interface, but another perspective: module maintainer. I often have support requests about bad translations in the admin interface which cause problems (With Spanish translation ell the entries for node Types are same, on Pathauto configuration.).
Many help documents are only available in English (though Cuenco Digital among others is helping with that). So, when an admin reads a help page they have to map in their mind from the language in the help document to the language of the translated module.
In an ideal world, we would have translations of everything - admin interface, help documents, etc. - but we live in a non-ideal world.

El problema de la traduccion al español es que cambia de orden los items en los menus, sobre todo si tenes admin_menu.
Aparte de que se complica saber a que se refiere algunos de los items cuando estan en español, por ejemplo "Post Settings" en español aparece como "Opciones de Envio".
Pero igualmente con el tiempo te acostumbras a tenerlo en español tambien.
