Create a module that would fetch images from facebook and displays them as gallery on your Drupal site.
This would saves our sites on bandwidth and time.
And future we could do the same for other image hosting sites.
Its like when you embed youtube and vimeo videos on your site

There is already a Media: Facebook module on drupal.org
It would be great if you can contact the module maintainer to talk about your ideas and some feedback.
Please notice that you would probably be working on a port to drupal 7.x and the new media api(including a drupal streamwrapper for facebook).

And as marvil07 points out, this would basically be porting the Media: Facebook module to work with the new Media APIs for Drupal 7 and not really writing anything "new".

I believe that embed.ly
I believe that embed.ly requires a paid subscription to access their API. If that is the case, then it should not be used by itself as an argument against a project, however, your 2nd point still stands.

I just went over the providers for the module but i didn't see any mentioning for facebook. Thanks for info anyways now I have more options to look at before starting to work
