Attention all developers. The great module Taxonomy Menu is looking for a new owner. This module has a Current Usage of 5200 installs. This amazing module can be your for the price of $0. All it takes is a lot of love.
Now on to the meat. This module has been completely rewritten to not use hook_menu. It has a very active user base that helps a ton in the issues queue. I know there appear to be a ton of open issue but many of them are very old and stale. A large portion of the active issues are for how to use the module. There are several users that helped to write the documentation that answer these questions. Others are new feature requests (i18n and Domain access integration).
There is still someone dedicated to developing the D5 version.
When I rewrote the module, I focused the goal of taxonomy menu on adding the menu links. All of the page rendering and routing are to be handled by other modules.
Hooks were added to allow functionality to be added without hacking the module. (http://drupal.org/node/380652)
A new version is being worked on which will allow for more flexibility in how the node are created (http://drupal.org/node/432048). I have a lot of code for this already written wish I will share. It's just not ready to be comitted yet.
Act Fast!!

I might be interested, but I don't know a lot about maintaining modules. I'm also not a fluent drupal dev, but perhaps helping with this would help?
Maybe you would be willing to help me get my feet wet with this?

Sdude learning the ropes
Seth,
Go 4 it man!
There are PLENTY of resources for learning PHP and plenty MORE for applying it to the Drupal framework and API.
http://w3schools.com/php/default.asp There is a 20 question quiz on there that I just took and I missed 3 silly ones. Not questions that I needed to know to write valid code.
..PHP is similar in structure to what language?
..In PHP5 MySQL support is on by default T/F
..Post variables are visible in the browser URL T/F {i always have the GET and POST confused}

http://howtoforge.org/taxonomy_menu/1/79/6 I believe in how-to's. And howtoforge.org has a series of articles that explains arrays, loops and all that php savvy stuff. It's very practical oriented, so check it out!

At the least... Open up the files. Go to some of core modules in a Drupal install and look at the .module file. Find the smallest sized files and dissect them. Look up any unrecognized function at http://www.php.net/

Seth, your account has been added for CVS access and I moved the task you logged to transfer ownership of the project.

Easy one
Getting account to co-maintain an existing module is easy. For a new module, you get into the backlog of code reviews which takes a while. :(

Bob,
Do you have a relative that works in Clarain Hospital's Lab?

maybe
Went to a Snodgrass family reunion a few years back and found all kinds of relatives I didn't know existed... I always say they named a whole town Snodgrass back in Scotland and shipped us all over so we are at least from the same place.
I suppose names are also taxonomy of sorts aren't they?
