Hello All,
I'm in the process of forming a group/partnership with a couple of like-minded developers and designers in Toronto. The intent is to build a sort of incubator - I have ideas, you have ideas, we work on them collaboratively to make sure our ideas come to fruition. No clients, no salaries, no hourly rates, no hierarchy, no deadlines - just the opportunity to learn and work on complex designs/developments.
The group is really coming together, we have some very talented individuals that are interested, however we need some Drupal talent!
ABOUT ME
I'm employed fulltime as a web/multimedia developer for a large organization. I am more of a front-end developer, however I can handle my own when it comes to server-side coding. A list of acronyms I'm quite familiar with: HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, AJAX, PHP, C#, SQL. I typically use Drupal or WordPress in my sites if the build requires it.
ABOUT YOU
Passionate about the web. Understand what I'm talking about and have ideas of your own. Employed as a web developer or designer. Not in it for the money (don't get me wrong, there will be money - lots of it if our ideas stick). Live in the GTA. Drupal/Open-Source enthusiast.
All skill levels welcome to get in touch. Feel free to make suggestions or comments. Hope to hear from you soon.
(my apologies if this is the wrong venue to be posting this message)

Comments
This is definitely the right
This is definitely the right place to post this. However, your description seems rather vague. Would you like to share what kind of projects you're working on, and perhaps where/when your group meets? Right now it sounds a little shady.
Further Clarification
Thanks for your suggestions. Sorry if I came off as a little shady :/ I promise I'm on the up and up!
The kind of projects we would be working on:
- the intent is that individuals part of the group have an idea for a website (i.e. a blog titled Mayor Ford Looking at Things, just as an example) and pitch it to the group
- each group member then decides whether or not they can/want to contribute
- idea holder and groups members work on site to get it up and running
- the websites can be anything really: they could be income generating, political, artistic projects, etc. Just no client/business driven websites (i.e. a website for Joe's Deli)
The entire process isn't written in stone, the hope is that processes will grow organically.
The group is meeting for the first time this weekend at Linuxcaffe. Currently there are five members, including myself. I wasn't anticipating a large turnout so I haven't thought about booking an actual venue.
I encourage anyone interested in this venture to let me know. I do want the first meeting to be smaller so the idea can be further refined by committee.
That being said I appreciate any comments and suggestions you may have. Please let me know if I can help clarify further.

Interested I Be
I was drafting an article the other day discussing letters of intent as methods of early stage start up partnerships and just got off the phone offering free advice and sales leads to a fashion company I know could do well with good help from solid web-media skills and proper marketing scenario projections to go with social networking sales reps.
I was saying the other day that a website that can earn a blogger money does not have to be the best of anything but that a simple curiosity can be enough to attract a following and therefore earn affiliate commissions. A team of creative collaborators can earn while enriching the life of a single writer.
On the other side, like you said we all have ideas, big ones, social, political, capitial or other, and as a development team that has the power to manage the attention and flow of capital from thousands of people a day through the power of Drupal each idea can come to life and see daylight. With team efforts and decent professional profiles of idea/project members the GoBigNetwork or other VC options are just a step away.
Linux cafe but what time?
Mystery unfolds
1:00pm this Saturday @ the Linuxcaffee | 326 Harbord Street
Hope to see you there, rCharles!
You're absolutely right, there is a general misconception of how money is made online. Largely because (forgive me for being cliche) the web has continuously changed for the last decade or so. However, unlike many of the changes we see influenced by politics and corporations, the new web is primarily built and driven by small studios, creative individuals, and the end user.
At any rate, one thing remains: ideas have always been, and will continue to be, the greatest currency/commodity known to man. So, please, come out this Saturday and throw in your 2 cents!

Next Time
Ideas aside, other events got my attention today so I missed the meeting. I'll be in touch.
How was the meeting?
Any update/news?
update
Hey Guys,
Things went well this past Saturday. The group is well rounded - we have an illustrator, server admin, web designer, communications expert, and myself (web developer).
We are trying to organize a second meeting to pick a project and split the work load.
That said, there is still room for talent and ideas.
Lastly, I'm mulling over whether or not this needs to be done in a larger group... any comments/suggestions?

Skills
This sounds interesting. I'm still relatively new to Drupal, but I have comp sci background. My skills are in site building and views. If you think I could help with that, I'd be happy to get involved.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your interest. Stay tuned, I'm in the process of organizing a second meeting. It will most likely be this weekend. I'm trying to book a room at Ryerson or U of T.
I will post the details here once everything is figured out.
Thanks
