Flash Video on IPODs

Has anyone found a solution to flash videos that work well on your site but don't work on an iPod etc since Apple does not support the format? Is there a way to serve up a flah format for IE & Firefox but a different format for iPods? Introducing a simple video on our church site introduced complaints I did not see coming. Would appreciaate any insight anyone has ahd with this.

MediaFront

I use MediaFront and the OSM media player (included in the MediaFront module.) It takes a little bit to get used to the module config but there are some great how to videos. IT will play in HTML5 or revert to flash if the OS/browser does not support HTML5.

YouTube

We need to be out in the world, right? YouTube is where the world is. Take the message to them instead of expecting them to come to you, and just embed the YouTube video on your site for the benefit of those who've already come to you. iOS can handle YouTube video.

And with Google now accepting churches as non-profits, once approved, my understanding is that the 10 minute limit goes away. (Still waiting for our approval--they must've been inundated after the announcement.)

Hi Jim. You did not mention

Hi Jim. You did not mention whether you are needing the videos hosted locally on the site or if you were hosting the videos elsewhere and embedding them. We are in the midst of making a change for our organization from Blip.TV hosted to Wistia. In doing the research for this project, both Wistia and Vimeo Plus/Pro have great players that will detect whether HTML5 is supported or not and revert if needed. Also, both services will encode the uploaded videos appropriately for desktop or mobile device consumption. Wistia is a bit steeper in cost but it is also white label video hosting without anything else forced upon your player experience. Vimeo Plus is quite inexpensive and affords for many amenities that might be helpful to you.

If indeed you must host and serve the videos locally from your site, from what I've seen, MediaFront and the OSM player can deal with what you are asking as gr8britton has indicated. *Note, never used it at any length.

Blessings!

Thanks all for the replies.

Thanks all for the replies. I do not need per se, to host the videos locally on our site. In fact at this point at any rate, these are very short videos, maybe 2 minutes, as they are promos for a particular event. I like the You Tube suggestion made by doulos12 as I agree we need to take our message to the world. However, does You Tube allow for and detect Apple devices? The key for me is to ensure that the Flash video will be able to be seen by whomever wants to see it. Or is the solution a combination, where I embed the video on our site using one of the tools suggested, and also load it to You Tube? I would prefer the simplicity of a single solution but in the end I need to ensure anyone can see it.

Youtube will do exactly what

Youtube will do exactly what you want. iOS devices automatically get a compatible version of the video. Desktops automatically get the flash version.

I appreciate all the input.

I appreciate all the input. This saves me a ton of research time. I will go down the path of YouTube and then test the results. Thanks again all!
