Commons Site Builder Guide or Manual

Hi,

Has anyone found or created a manual or guide (no matter how big or small) for Commons site builders, community managers, and/or content creators and admins?

Less interested in things having to do with development, themeing, or admin that are covered here . . .

. . . and more interested in topics like User Management, Organic Groups, Messaging and Notifications...especially common pitfalls, things that tend to be confusing, any usability issues to work around/overcome, best practices, etc. (I know most features in Commons tend to have on-page help text but it would be nice to see these and other additions/edits all together.)

This is also a good start, but I wonder if more details are out there about some of the topics I listed above...

Obviously so much of this is site specific, but certainly some pieces are universal . . .

Agreed standard user documentation for people would be very useful. I am about to start creating it from scratch. If I finish before any other documentation is created online, I will look into creating a template, perhaps in Google Drive, that people can build upon. Will keep you posted.

My documentation will include tutorials for:

Standard Users

  • Logging in
  • Creating and updating your Profile
  • Looking at the Home Dashboard
  • Joining a Group
  • Participating in discussion
  • Contributing to a Wiki
  • Joining an Event
  • Updating your Status
  • Searching for Content
  • Finding other employees using the Members Directory (My own customized members directory)
  • Searching for a particular skill-set in the agency and finding someone who has it (My own customized employee skill table)

Content Editors

  • Creating Posts
  • Creating QA
  • Creating Events
  • Creating Wikis
  • Creating Group Documents (My own customized feature)
  • Creating "Sticky" content

Group Managers

  • Adding Members
  • Changing Member roles
  • Modifying Group information

Hopefully this will be a great start to providing some solid and general documentation on the USE of Commons.

Hi Travis,

I have been working on a large Commons implementation for the past two years, and am in the throes of beginning a giant one in Commons 3.

I have a pretty solid start on the use and the admin (from the non-technical side) of commons. I imagine it is a lot of the way there on both sides of the admin tool bar based on what your list above indicates.

I'm a brand new user, not too bright, have successfully installed Acquia Dev Desktop, fun!
As such I'd be a good reader/reviewer/editor if you have a draft of your user manual, Travis ... Jenn .... someone.

Any update in this great idea ?

I'm building a social network based on drupal commons and I can't found any documentation out there.
Any update there on this great idea will be appreciate.
