Where do people go in or near Toronto for Drupal training

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Fellow Drupal lovers,
I was wondering where people might find quality Drupal training in or near Toronto. On a related note, where would people go for the best PHP training?

Online Training and upcoming workshop

I believe there are a few shops that offer training around Toronto. The best source is to look at http://Drupalize.me. They have hundreds of videos to bring you up to speed. Here at University of Waterloo, they have purchased 10 or so licenses. They are a little pricey. There is someone else doing the same thing, their pricing is more reasonable, however I forget their name/link.

Emma Jane does training. She has a workshop coming up on Advance PHP for Drupal. Sept 20th and 27th. http://www.phpfordevelopers.com/.

http://BuildAModule.com has

http://BuildAModule.com has hundreds of videos to learn Drupal and I know there's a series of them on using PHP in Drupal. Their subscription cost is very reasonable and they make with new videos continuously. Some are free so you can check out the quality first to see if it suits you.

Thanks Hélène, thats the one I was thinking of.

Also like BuildAModule

I have also found BuildAModule very useful for Drupal and PHP help/training. The PHP are both general and Drupal-oriented. There are a number of videos offered for free but the subscription is not too high.

any "schools"

Are there any organizations or institutions that provide courses? Maybe they provide more general software development education and include PHP and CMS's?

Acquia

Drupal Training from Acquia might be what you're looking for.

They host training session all across North America and have Training Partners in most cities.

http://www.acquia.com/products-services/drupal-training

You can look out for upcoming training sessions or book a personal training session with acquia where they visit you.

I haven't personally gone this route and I would imagine it would be fairly expensive when compared to subscriptions for the online tutorial services mentioned above.

You might also want to go through previous threads in this group from training partners. I seem to recall there being several posts from companies offering training.

Acquia Training

I did a 3 day workshop for module development and it was a good intro course. I think it was about $1000 (or a bit less with early bird registration). Expensive for sure, but for me it forced me to focus on nothing else for 3 days so it was worth it.

The only problem was there was a lot of people in the course who were in over their heads so they kind of slowed things down - especially the first day. (It's amazing how every training course I do starts with 2 hrs of getting the local dev environment working...)

One note is that the training partners all basically independent groups training with Acquia course materials. So it's very possible the quality of instructors will vary, but the courses themselves are likely solid.

Hello!Yep, at Acquia we do

Hello!

Yep, at Acquia we do have training in Canada, you can see the schedule of courses there:

In Toronto - we have courses in September.

The Evolving Web folks have been teaching in Toronto recently. They are very knowledgeable and get consistently positive feedback. They are patient and enthusiastic - which makes for a great vibe in the classroom too. I'm sure they'd like to hear what your current needs are - and to find out how they can help when they come to Toronto.

They also have a speciality in multilingual development - so that might be of interest for you too. (We have a new multilingual course out now!)

@ afoster - I work on instructional design and the feedback loop between participants/trainers and back to the materials. I'd really like to speak with you to find out what you thought worked well or what could be better. I'll message you and maybe we can chat on Skype, if you have time!

I'd highly recommend taking the http://www.phpfordevelopers.com/ - Especially if you are in a position to get several colleagues to join with you, since you pay for a company seat. "Each company that buys a seat may send as many attendees as they would like. "

I heard about this course plan directly from Emma Jane this past week at DrupalCon, it's really exciting! The bonus is - by paying for the course, you'll be supporting/funding the creation of an open source course that is much needed in the community.

And I think you'll meet some great people too :) That context would be quite different from taking a generic PHP course, and more relevant to your work with Drupal.

If there's enough interest, we're also planning on scheduling a Drupal for Developers training in Toronto in the coming months. Feel free to contact me for more info or check out the training section of our website (http://evolvingweb.ca/training).

Hey guys,
(disclaimer - I work for OSTraining)

Another good resource for beginners is Open Source Training - http://www.ostraining.com. We taught the Absolute Beginner's Guide to Drupal at Drupalcon's Chicago, London and Denver.

There's a Beginners course, an intermediate course, and a bunch of shorter tutorial courses covering a number of topics. (podcasting, organic groups, newsletter, views, wysiwyg editor etc.)

With your subscription - you get forum support from us as well. All online - available 24/7.

We're also an Acquia Training partner...

I've just scheduled a Drupal

pixelite's picture

I've just scheduled a Drupal for Developers training in Toronto on November 15th (http://evolvingweb.ca/training/toronto). This is targeted at developers who are new to Drupal, but have a programming background.

We're also doing an intro Drupal training course the day before.

I hope some of you can make it!
