Recent projects and testing

I've recently worked with:

  • Book module + Book Made Simple + Book Helper (pretty straight forward)

and

  • Organic Groups (not as straight forward)

in Drupal 7. I've also played around with these D7 modules recently:

  • Taxonomy Access Control
  • TAC Lite
  • Access By Term
  • Content Access
  • Treewalk Previous / Next

I hope to try out the Spark distribution before Tuesday as well.

Out of those, for me, Organic

Out of those, for me, Organic groups is interesting. Precisely because it is not straightforward.

And how it wants to pair with another not-straightforward option, panels. (Although if panels gets mentioned there might be some of us who'd like to list how it thwarts us.)

However I do have an understanding of how adaptivetheme works with panels and provides responsive layouts for panels users, as well as how their system can be used to create new panels layouts in your subtheme.

Have people used other responsive base themes with panels support? I'm interested in a theme comparison talk as well.

adaptivetheme

I am currently using an adaptivetheme in a site I'm building. I haven't tried Panels with it, but I'm playing with Display Suite and it's working fairly well. There are a couple of informative videos on how to set up responsive images in AT here: http://modulesunraveled.com/responsive-images

D6 or D7 OG?

OG is a great topic. I might even be able to add a bit to the discussion with insights and questions.

AT... great topic also, I use this one religiously, have for awhile. Not done anything with it though for responsive layouts.

I'd lean towards OG though. Its one of those groups of modules that Needs more use and understanding for all Drupal community. IMO, one of the most powerful yet under utilized sets of modules out there, and can really separate out Drupal from other platforms.

D7

I have used OG in D6 but I would demo D7 as that is what I just used recently. It's been awhile since I used D6 OG.

Cool!

I'll bring my computer and I'm happy to do a quick demo of Organic Groups in D7.

Also, I'd like to take about 10 minutes or so to get feedback on my outline for my BADCamp multilingual D7 training. Since most of you have gone through the book chapters, then I'm sure you'll have useful feedback!

As for responsive theme + panels, I've only used Adaptive Theme (well, AT Panels Everywhere). I have noticed a weird thing with this setup and I'm not sure it's PE or AT or AT-PE that is the culprit. Some times, all of the surrounding content (header/footer/sidebars) disappears when loading a page and all that is shown is the main content (e.g. node body and fields). I checked the Panels Everywhere issues and couldn't find any mention of this type of behavior. The main problem is that it is intermittent and I'm not sure how to reproduce it. If I could reproduce it, then I might be able to debug it.

OG me too, but...

I would love to be there to hear about Organic Groups.
I am currently on a driving trip back from Boulder, CO where I drove with my daughter going back to school, and do not expect to be back in SC next week. Friends to visit along the way; I'm working as I go. If you have slides or etc, keep them please! Many thanks, Mary Edith

Spark & Panopoly

I've also played around with the Spark & Panopoly distributions if anyone wants a quick demo.

OG for me

I am going to using OG in D7 soon (hopefully)

Next time?

Hi all,

Thanks for sharing the pain of setting up a simple OG 2.x configuration ;) I'm thinking about creating a step-by-step tutorial before BADCamp... if I have time.

Anyone want to present something at the October 2nd meeting? Ideas?

Cheers!
