Drupal Ladder sprints?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hey there!

I've probably met a few of you, but for the rest, I'm Brock Boland. I live down in DC, and I'm involved in the Drupal Ladder initiative: http://drupalladder.org

The gist of it is that we're working to get more people involved in contributing to core, with a goal of 1% of drupal.org users contributing to Drupal core by summer 2014.

There are two main ways that we're working to achieve that goal:

  1. Learn sprints, where we work through lessons on DrupalLadder.org
  2. Issue sprints, where we work on issues from the Drupal core issue queue

We've been doing sprints here in DC, and other user groups have been hosting them all over the world.

Would you guys have any interest in taking part? We would need someone to meet with:

  • Chairs and tables for 20-30 people, if not more
  • Wireless that can support all those people
  • A projector or large monitor is good to have, but not critical

If anyone is interested in helping to plan a sprint, I'd love to help out! I can't promise that I can make it up there for it, but if nothing else I can work with you in the planning.

Hey Brock!

I'd love to organize one (I organize the meet ups in PVD). I have a place in mind - I'll be checking in with them next week and see what we can drum up for support!

Great to hear! We have info on the site about running both kinds of sprints:

Learn sprints: http://drupalladder.org/learn-sprints
Issue sprints: http://drupalladder.org/issue-sprints

Feel free to get in touch with me or Karyn directly if you have any questions or need some advice (Karyn is the lead for learn sprints, I'm the lead for issue sprints)

Followup!

Hey Jason, just checking in. Any movement on this?

Almost!

Hi Brock-

I've recently left my regular job to work on my own again, so have a bit more time for our local meetup. I've been thinking about doing a 'pairs mentoring' event in January (not enough time to do something for December before all the holiday parties start) and then a code sprint event in February. That will give me some time to get some better plans in place and more up to speed on what needs doing after Code Freeze. I may also be in Sydney for DrupalCon (I've had a talk accepted and am just trying to cover the costs of going) so that will be a good chance to see what needs doing.

I'll definitely be checking in with you for some ideas & advice after the holidays!

Thanks,

Jason
