I'd love to get some comments from Australians on the election platform I've put forward in my campaign to get on the Board of the Drupal Association.
If elected, my simple idea is to use the non-profit profile of the association to help engage Australian Govt in a discussion about how the Drupal community might expand to be more inclusive of Govt needs. I'd seek to bring Govt agencies into the DA membership and help them to coordinate development funding that would be used to invest in specific outcomes within the Drupal project. Importantly, a stream of the extra investment would go direct to the Association to fund many other initiatives - such as the Drupal.org upgrade.
I have written more on this subject in a number of posts and will post more over the next few weeks. Those articles are now being aggregated here: http://drupal.org/aggregator/sources/1054
Any feedback from those in Australia working in, or working with, Govt agencies would be especially helpful :)
If the approach works, I'd seek to help it gain traction in other regions globally and also try to spark other cooperatives where there is a strong alignment of user needs.

Hi Steven,
Here's some ways larger orgs can contribute immediately without establishing any new engagement models:
Hope that helps!
