Drupal 8 plans as a web framework
We had a lively discussion at our October meeting that was very informative. Most of the concerns expressed were very valid but Drupal is an every changing project. The services module http://drupal.org/project/services is solution today to allow better integration or use Drupal as a backend webservice. While the services module is a nice solution for D6 and D7, it's build on top of top of Drupal's huge monolithic stack.
This is changing in D8 with the webservices initiative http://groups.drupal.org/wscci
Announced today is even more exciting developer news: http://groups.drupal.org/node/262063
