I'm thinking about heading to Café on the Common in Waltham on Thursday to do some remote working on some Drupal projects, and I'd love to have some company. Come by with your laptop, whatever you're working on, and we'll sit and work together in the same space, give each other feedback/support, etc.
Location is Café on the Common, Main Street and Moody Street in Waltham. Free Wifi, excellent coffee, sandwiches and pastries, and cheap all-day parking right next door (just turn onto Common Street and park in the parking lot that's right there). They do close at 6, though, which is the only hiccup.
If this goes well, I'm thinking of doing a series of casual coworking events where a bunch of us descend upon a coffee shop and work together for a day.
Edit: You can find me in the section of the shop that's near the ice cream counter (ice cream!). I'm wearing a blue d4d Tshirt and flipflops.

great idea!
I get all the messages about activities, but due to my work schedule, I've putting off migrating my site to a drupal platform. I'm a novice when it comes to Drupal, but perhaps this may be an opportunity to observe live back end updates and get my feet wet.
Will anyone be open to showing me basics given I bring my laptop and thinking cap?
Thanks
Need help, Drupal rookie..will you be my friend? :)
Can teach some, hope to learn some
Been putting together Drupal sites for over a month now. I can show anyone how get started and put up, theme and configure sites. What I would like to learn is more about custom theming, and modifying/writing modules. I hope I can do both.
awsome!
do you have some examples, travis? any previous html experience?
Sounds like a great plan-- unfortunately I will not be able to teach much :(

Examples
Right now I am putting up a social networking site: www.authenticgamer.com (which is a whole 26 hours old now...) I am great with HTML, okay with CSS and merely competent at most other web languages.
I'll be there working on
I'll be there working on getting a client's site ready for launch; I'm happy to walk through some of the stuff I'm doing.

I'd love to check out Dani's CSS magic. 6 PM end time is a little tough. Not sure if I can make it. Are you really starting on 9 AM?!

Yeah, I'm going to head
Yeah, I'm going to head there as if it were a regular workday. The idea is that a bunch of folks come by and work on whatever they're working on, and we can all ask each other questions if something's sticking us.

Lunch break?
I actually work a stone's throw away from the Cafe, but there lies the problem, since I work. But I might be able to stop by for an hour or so during lunch, so consider me a maybe.
I can assist with CSS questions. I myself am trying to learn how CCK works from a code perspective, and how to override the multiple values widget with one that allows for hierarchies.
I hope to attend
I live in Dracut and want to attend.
I am a beginner w/ Drupal, a few months

Hi just found this group by searching 'Drupal Boston' - I am a freelance web designer with no experience in content management. A client just asked yesterday if I'd be able to implement a 'Facebook or LinkedIn' (his words) type of section of his site where users could log in and maintain accounts (short version of his needs).
The past 24 hours has been a whirlwind of research - which brought me to Drupal.
Finding this meetup scheduled for tomorrow is very exciting since I've been wondering whether I can do this alone or if I need to bring in a partner.
I spend a lot of time at CDIA on Moody Street, so heading up the road will be a snap.
I plan on being there. Thanks!
Pete
Well, this is really
Well, this is really intended as a coworking experiment, not as a discussion group, but I'm sure there'll be some folks here that could help you figure out whether this is right for your clients' needs.
I would suggest, in this situation, that you look seriously at what your client's budget will allow, and that you find a developer to work with on this project. Social media sites are intense, and Drupal can do it, but not without some development help.

Re: Well, this is really
Thanks Dani,
I think I mentioned that this is a personal project so no clients are involved its my personal passion to build this site. I'm putting all my out of pocket money to finance it. So I'm looking for help in building it and would pay for it myself, ugh.
Mainly someone I can ask specific questions about what I want to do and how to do it. They may have quick answers that would solve a problem that would take me weeks to figure out or I may not do it right.
So I really need someone with experience to help me out once a week. If you know anyone please let me know.
Tom
I may have overstepped my bounds!
Just noticed - I didn't realize this was a private group! I'm sorry! :D
But if anyone has any advice on finding an available Drupal-expert developer in the Boston area, or can guide me in finding info (message boards, blogs) on implementing Drupal (along with figuring out costs/timeframe for a particular project), please give me a shout!
Thanks,
Pete

Heading to Waltham!
I am headed over right now with my coworker! We are working on 2 sites - one is a social network with all the bells and whistles and one is a International business site that I am configuring Ubercart for. This is my first experience with Ubercart and so far I LOVE IT!
