If you can't make it to Newington, feel free to join us at 7:00 pm via a Google+ hangout we'll create for the event. You can add JP to one of your circles on Google+ to make it easier to join the hangout.

Hurray!

Thanks so much for taking the initiative to do this! I had put out a request for co-organizers of the DUG back in the Spring, since I've been too swamped to dedicate time to it, so I'm really glad to see that someone else has interest in making it happen. I'm looking forward to helping bring the Seacoast DUG back to life!

Scheduling around other meetups

It might be helpful to have a list meetups that those of us in the Seacoast area may want to take into consideration when coming up with the best date to hold the Seacoast DUG meetings. Here's a list to start with:

  • First Tuesday - Maine DUG
  • Second Thursday - Manchester DUG
  • Third Thursday - NH PHP
  • Fourth Wednesday - WebDev

Please let us know if there are others that we should add to the list

Hi JP,

Sorry not to have poked my head up before now. Although I cannot make Wednesday's discussion, I am totally behind organizing a monthly Seacoast DUG at the Alpha Loft. Don't know if I will have the bandwidth to help with organizing meetings, but I might. I can certainly come up with focused presentations and lead discussions about them.

I will put in 2 cents up front. The Portland/Maine group's approach of consuming all of each meeting's time with one presentation does not work for me. I favor one or two shorter presentations per meeting, plus ample time for general Q&A.

Best,

Bob

Thanks everyone!

We appreciate everyone's feedback as we move forward. Please continue to post ideas and suggestions here. Please also complete this poll asking what days in general will work for you:

Now what?

Based on the poll results, most folks say that the 4th Thursday works best, but it's probably too late to get something organized for this Thursday. Perhaps we should try for the second-best date for people, which was the 1st Thursday, which would be 11/1.

What does everyone think?

Next Seacoast DUG meetup

kbaringer's picture

Thanks so much for taking this on guys! Sadly, the whole reason I started the Seacoast DUG was because Thursdays are almost always bad for me due to family commitments, but since I've been slacking so much this year anyway I don't think that should stop folks from meeting on Thursdays if that works best for the majority. I'll try to make it whenever I can, but until next Fall (when my daughter goes to college... (gulp)) Thursdays will be tough. Meanwhile, keep it going, and I'll gladly share ideas and resources even if I'm not there for meetups.

On that note, if anyone in the group has a project that they would like some feedback on then I'd be willing to try to have impromptu meetings in town every now and then, outside the scope of the regular meetups. Just drop me a line!

Thanks again for all of your efforts to keep this alive! ~ Kevin

This works for me as well -

This works for me as well - 11/1 is also a good date.

I heard back from Josh about

peezy's picture

I heard back from Josh about the 11/1, and although there is an eBrew event that day, we can still have our Meetup at Alpha Loft.

Josh doesn't think it is bad to be on the same day as eBrew, as long as that is what's best for the group, and it seems like it is indeed a good date (none of us were aware of the other event). We can discuss further there and online about a regular date.

Unless someone has any major objections, I'll email Josh first thing tomorrow to confirm 11/1 as our date.

@kbaringer: You've got a senior in High School... no wonder you're so busy! :-) We'll definitely consider your schedule for the long-term, and thank you for getting the Seacoast DUG off-the-ground in the first place.
