Where

skeen's picture

Thanks for posting this (I've been swamped lately)

As for "Where", Do we have a consensus of preferred meeting place?

Would we rather meet at place with

1.) Food and Beverage (like Barley Mill)

or

2.) Place with Projector (like Free geek)

or does anyone know of a "mythical" place that would have both?

Pints over projector!

Pints over projector!

If we could get both, that'd be great, but Drupal makes me thirsty :)

From talking with folks at the last meetup, it sounds like Barley Mill was a good fit --

Cheers,

Bill

Projector over pints!

Projector over pints! :P

Is there lack of attention/cohesion when using a projector because of high attendance?

Pints --- Projector Smackdown!

skeen's picture

We've had about 10 - 15 folks showing up to these so far. And as here, it seems split as to preference of a formal projector type meeting or a pints type meetup.
I'm indifferent, so no tie breaker here. Hopefully we will get more feedback. Lucky Lab does have that side room, we could look into reserving that possibly???

LuckyLab +1

drewish's picture

I'm all for the Lucky Lab. Projector + Pints!

Sounds like the best of both

bonobo's picture

Sounds like the best of both worlds.

+1 for the Lucky Lab.

Separate room would be great

BenK's picture

I agree that someplace with a separate room would be really helpful. It would also be great to see a slightly more formal structure that encourages discussion as a single group (as opposed to a whole bunch of 2-3 person conversations).

At the very least, we could take turns demonstrating our various drupal sites... it would be interesting to see what everyone is working on, with opportunities for everyone to discuss modules and ask, "how did you do that?"

Does anyone have a portable projector that they could bring from their work? Can we "check one out" from Free Geek?

I volunteer for Free Geek, they do not have a projector available for checkout. However, Bus Project DOES have a good projector, and it's possible I could arrange checking it out...especially if anyone is willing to chat with me about the future of their drupal-based web site ;)

If this is desirable, please let me know - I suspect advance warning will be key to making it happen.

Which Lucky Lab?

glendac's picture

Are you talking about the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne? I got confused once with an event that took place at a NW location of LL. In any case, I vote for any place where I don't have to shout to talk to people.

Hawthorne

skeen's picture

The Lab I was thinking of was on Hawthorne, I'll stop by today and see how the room reservation works there....

I'll post what I find out

cheers,
Sam

The thing I didn't like

drewish's picture

The thing I didn't like about the Barley Mill was that it was hard to talk to other people than the ones you were sitting next to. Maybe we should just make everyone stand up and shuffle around every half hour ;)

Lucky Lab!

shabam's picture

I really like having both. The projector and formal discussion keep us focused for a while on one topic that we can discuss and learn about. Then after that (an hour?) we can have pints and personal discussions. This allows us to meet with others who share our passion, and discuss details with them.

Someone mentioned doing a round table, showing off our Drupal sites. This would be cool. We can all show off what we do, get ideas from others, and discuss how we can improve things. Fun for all :)

LuckLab room = $75 (not available on 15th)

skeen's picture

Sorry folks, the quest continues, .......

I called Lucky Lab and they are already booked for Thursday the 15th, also it is $75 to book them during the week.

basement space?

mira's picture

We have a basement studio/meeting space in our house in NE PDX. If you'd all like to have the meeting here, you're welcome. There are a few breweries and pizza places/restaurants within a few blocks of the house, so we could bring in food and pints also... no projector machine here, but plenty of dark spongy wall space to use as a screen if someone can borrow one for the night.

Why not?

glendac's picture

Good idea, Mira. I can't bring a projector but will bring beer and some things edible. If we can't have a projector, we probably can take turns huddling around each other's laptop? Do you have wireless internet connection? I'd be glad to host future meetings on the SW side of town.

I have a projector InFocus

webavant's picture

I have a projector InFocus SP5000 with DVD-I port. Are you saying your wall is dark spongy or the wall is spongy and the room is dark? A dark wall isn't good for a projector, white is best. I do have a 70" screen, but it needs to be mounted (no tripod).

sorry again...the search continues

mira's picture

my apologies for this, but i got ahead of myself in offerring up the space for the meeting. it turns out i won't be able to attend this months meeting either due to a scheduling conflict... The other places that I thought to suggest are already booked for that evening as well.

For future meetings, one option I would suggest is The Waypost (waypost.com) on Williams Ave. in NE, but they're already scheduled for the 15th.

The Personal Telco map lays out free wireless points well: http://map.personaltelco.net and Platial has the beer: http://www.platial.com/search?what=beer.

In the absence of any consensus on this

bonobo's picture

And in the absence of any other concrete proposals, how about we say the Barley Mill Pub, this Thursday at 7:00 --

At some point in the evening, we can make a decision about where to hold subsequent meetings. From this thread, it seems like we'd be well advised to book a room in advance, so maybe we could plan for March's meeting during this one.

And we could use drewish's suggestion of periodic shuffling to keep the conversations lively :)

Cheers,

Bill

barley mill it is

drewish's picture

yeah, lets just do the barley mill and we can making hashing out a new location agenda item #1.

Confirming the Date and Time

BenK's picture

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to double-check that everything is a go for meeting at the Barley Mill tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 15) at 7:00 p.m. (Last time we met at 6:00 p.m., but the event page says 7:00 p.m. this time around.)

It would be great if we could start the meeting off by having everyone introduce themselves. This way, we'd have a better sense of what everyone's interests and expertise may be.

See everyone there!

7 works best for me

drewish's picture

i'm not done with class till 6:30 so 7 would be perfect. i imagine there'll be people there a bit early though. i'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

Sounds Good

skeen's picture

I can make it.
The shuffling would be good, It will be 'Speed Drupaling'!!!

cheers
