Student portal in Drupal

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Our Drupal team has recently been tasked with building a Student Portal for the campus. It will need to pull data from enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft (student data) and Desire2Learn (LMS), as well as other Drupal sites (news and events). I was wondering if anyone in this group has built, or is currently building, a student portal in Drupal? If so, I'd love to hear about your experience.

Lucky for you there is a homerun example already in production, with community-minded people behind it:

Thanks, Zach!

Our lead developer, Kevin Miller, gave a presentation last DrupalCon Denver on using Open Atrium as a student portal here at Cal State Monterey Bay.

http://denver2012.drupal.org/program/sessions/open-atrium-dot-edu-open-a...

"Open Atrium is an excellent install profile for small teams and project management – but with a few tweaks, it can be retrained as a powerful and beautiful intranet for universities and other large organizations. Cal State Monterey Bay has successfully put all 6000 daily users and tens of thousands of applicants in a single Open Atrium site, and used a combination of features overrides, custom spaces, and Open Atrium's own APIs to make it our own."

Let us know if you need some help or direction.
