A few of us are having coffee and talking Drupal on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in Jamaica Plain. You're invited! If you plan to attend, please sign up by logging in and clicking the "Sign up" button below. Knowing how many people are interested in attending can help us better select good locations in the future. People who sign up will also have last minute details (if there are any) sent to them before the meeting.

When: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 6:30-8:30pm
Where: BNN, in Egleston Square at 3025 Washington St, Roxbury MA 02119

Location

Google MapWe are being hosted by BNN, the non-profit media center that runs Boston's public access cable television channels (BNN News and Information Channel on 9 Comcast/15 RCN) and Community Access Channel (23 Comcast/83 RCN) and offers affordable training and access to media technologies and resources including two television studios, digital field production and editing equipment, a multimedia lab, and a mobile production truck, as well as a wealth of low-cost, hands-on media training classes.

This location is easily accessible by public transportation (take a bus or take the T to the Jackson Square station on the Orange Line) and there is plenty of on-street parking as well as free parking at the public lot directly across the street.

Topics

Everyone has their favorite tools in their toolbox and at this Drupal Cafe meeting we'll be talking about Devel and Drush. These are two general-purpose development tools with many features that anyone (develomers and themelopers alike) can use to make building, debugging and maintaining their sites easily and efficiently. There will be a demo followed by questions and answers, and there will be time at the end for everyone to put in their 2¢.

As always, if there's something that you want to talk about, just bring your laptop, a copy of Pro Drupal Development or whatever else you need. Plus, if you install Devel and Drush after hearing about this Drupal Cafe, you'll be eligible to win a prize at the meeting!

Does anyone want me to bring the espresso machine this time?

Bring it if you'd like, but --

lbourn's picture

Realistically, I'm not gonna drink any espresso after 6pm, so don't bring it for me, but if you want to bring it so we can all then later say "we had (an actual) espresso (machine) at our Drupal event" and to make it into a "genuine" Drupal Cafe, then go ahead and lug it along.

If people want coffee and there is no espresso machine, bring your own k-cups (it's that kind of coffee maker) and a mug, or hit the Dunkin Donuts around the corner before it closes at 7pm.

If any has any other sort of food or beverage machine they'd like to bring, please feel free, especially if it's a fried dough cart (preferably with tomato sauce and cheese, but I'm open to butter and powdered sugar).

Hi, wanted to get on the schedule for a few minutes.

We're trying to develop an immigration information site at UMass Boston. Just wanted to present it for advice and see if there's a developer interested.

I spoke to Susan about this.

Sure! For the first half of

Sure! For the first half of the meeting, we'll have presentations on Devel and Drush. Afterward, anyone is welcome to present and ask questions and it's a good time to discuss job openings.

Did you hear about the Drupal Cafe from Susan?

Closed?

I see that signups are closed. Is the group full for tonight?

By all means, please come!

By all means, please come! There's plenty of room. We have physical space for 15-20 people and have been averaging around 12 or so.

The signups don't seem to be closed to me. Is anyone else seeing this?

By the way, the functionality

By the way, the functionality that I was talking about during the meeting (whereby Drush ignores certain modules during a drush update command) requires the additional Update status advanced settings module.
