Merge Western Australia with Australia Group

I think it would be best to keep the Australian regions consolidated for now. Western Australia does not have the critical mass to maintain its own group I think. We've had this same issue awhile back when we consolidated the Sydney group as well.

Have the other state groups been merged with Australia group? If so I would support this. If not then I would propose to leave this group and promote it more.

Quite awhile back, we merged the Sydney/NSW group. I don't think I'm aware of any other state groups. I would highly support local support in WA, but there has been very little energy to this effect from what I've seen. It has only been just recently that someone posted about a Perth user group meetup, which I don't think anyone responded to.

I have created a WA taxonomy term to tag any posts specifically about WA on the Australia group (and all other states). Happy to take other ideas on board about how we can support Drupal in WA though. Also, encourage you to check out the australia IRC channel.

I think it should be merged then too. It is not that there is a lack of energy here, but rather that there needs to be members of a group before a meeting can take place. Centralising everything to the Australia group sounds like the right thing to do.

There was 2 replies to the topic in WA, not zero and if you're going to merge states, why not merge ACT and TAS, which only have 1 topic too? On the contrary, I don't really mind what happens as long as there's some way to identify the WA topics, and if tagging will do it, then fine.. :)

rcross is talking about merging this group with the Australia group, not removing the WA category in the Australaia group. Hopefully that will stop any dilution of WA posters by putting everything in one spot :)

My mistake on the responses, guess my memory must not be clear on that thread, so I should've checked. Has there been other progress in meetups for the area?

Regarding ACT and TAS, I haven't come across g.d.o groups for these areas. If they exist, I would also recommend merging them. Do you have links to them?

Apologies, I was confused with categories as groups - there probably isn't a separate ACT and TAS group.

There hasn't been any meetups yet - the guy that made that post in the WA category hasn't moved to WA yet, but will be shortly :) so we'll see then.

Yeah, I think moving the Western Australia group to the Australia Group->WA category is probably a good idea, presuming the person who created the Western Australia group is ok with it I guess. Some of the posts in the Western Australia group were confused too, and should be moved to Australia.

Yes this is a good thing to keep all of Australia in one place.

I must have missed when it was created as I have always argued this that we should keep only one group, and generally I have been contacted the person who created it, to discuss this with them.

I still think my arguments are valid so I think we should merge the 2 together.

I was waiting for the manager of the western australia group to comment before lodging the issue request. I have just emailed him about this thread, so hopefully he will comment. I will also lodge an issue for this group to be unpublished and the posts/users migrated to the Australia group.
