Now Playing Functionality

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I am a Vista volunteer assigned to a community radio station in Dallas. I don't think that the 'staff' of the station will do what is required to really use the station module after I leave, but I do want to offer the 'now playing' functionality for them?

I have a 'schedule' of shows that has a day (text format) and time (time and date format), and I think what I'd want is a block which asked/displayed:

If today is Monday...select Monday from Schedule
select Now (time) and display show that has that time slot ???

Do I need to convert the day to a date/time format to do this? Can anyone help with the code?, or point me in the right direction...I'm not a programmer, but can usually follow a recipe.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark, There's a block

Hi Mark,

There's a block that's automatically generated when you enable the Schedule module... is that what you're looking for? We have it running at the top of our page - http://www.nhpr.org. I think you have to designate which schedule is the "active" schedule, or something like that, but otherwise it runs itself as long as you keep the schedule up to date. It even offers a "default" setting in case there's nothing listed in the schedule for the current time slot.

Hope that helps!

i think that if your looking

i think that if your looking for a sustainable solution the station module will be a lot better than a text file.

You're probably right

Thanks for the replies and help. I think that 'sustainable' is really what I'm after, and actually got the idea from the Station module. For this particular station...there are some 56 DJs, many of whom will never touch the web...but they have to be members/users in order for their shows to be listed. I was being penny wise I suspect...it won't take that long to create 56 users...

Again thanks

Mark

yeah i think that's actually

yeah i think that's actually pretty common. we had a bunch of djs that never once logged in. we'd create their program and user account just so they'd show up on the web. and when they decided they wanted to change the program name we'd force them to log in and change it themselves ;)

but you can assign permissions such that the program director does all the management so you only need to train one person.

easiest way to force login for us

Easiest way to force login for us was to put our charting data on the website (required or you run the risk of losing your show), and to be able to chart you must have a program created... so it kinda worked out nicely. Our DJs are generally pretty good about these things anyways, and a lot of them were excited to have something to point to with their playlists and shows and a blog and... (etc)
