About High Performance Drupal

What is the High Performance Drupal meetup about? The "high performance" part of the name is a catch-all to describe Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking but we also discuss hosting, infrastructure, deployment, monitoring and highly repeatable processes.

Also, this meetup has been held at coffeeshops in the past and the addition of caffeine makes our meetings feel as if they go faster and faster as the night goes on.

We've been meeting regularly since April, 2011, in a variety of locations in and around Los Angeles, including Mar Vista, Santa Monica, Culver City and Downtown Los Angeles.

About Greater Los Angeles Drupal

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world.

Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010, and now organize a large number of events in the area. Our signature events include the Drupal Job Fairs and the Downtown Drupal, Frontend Drupal and High Performance Drupal meetups.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

Attending Drupal events in the Greater Los Angeles Area is one of the best ways to meet and talk with other Drupaleros and we encourage you to attend as many meetings and special events as you'd like. Whether it's to find solutions to problems you've been having, sharing something you've learned or just meeting interesting like-minded people, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal events are an essential resource for Drupal professionals and hobbyists alike.

If you aren't already a member of Greater Los Angeles Drupal, it's easy to join our community. Our community calendar is on our "Events" tab on our home page at http://groups.drupal.org/node/219129

We proudly participate in the California Drupal Travelers Program, which aims to connect businesses and community members who are visiting the area with our local community and events. Hi all, we're excited to

christefano's picture

Hi all, we're excited to announce that we're starting an hour early this time and moving our April meetup to a Wednesday so that we can team up with members of the Austin Drupal user group and the web chefs at Four Kitchens!

The idea is that we'll be video conferencing everyone in each user group together. The Greater Los Angeles Drupal group will have a presentation prepared for the Austin Drupal group, and vice-versa. Does anyone have any ideas, requests or offers for presentations to help make this happen?

As an general guide, some of the presentations we've had in the past have been about Behat and behavior-driven development, Drush tricks, HTTPRL, Solr, Chef, Vagrant, Pressflow, high performance hardware like SSDs and SSL accelerators, Google SPDY and the upcoming HTTP 2.0 protocol, discussion of Mosh (a proof-of-concept replacement for SSH), a detailed recap of the BADCamp DevOps Summit, using CDNs with the fileconveyor project, AWS CloudFront and Rackspace CloudFiles comparisons, load testing with BlazeMeter, a case study on GRAMMY.com's infrastructure, and an informal chat with Riot Games on how they use Drupal.

So is that 6 to 8 Pacific? I'm assuming yes. So I'll just check in.

Hey Khalim,

The meetup is scheduled for 6-8pm PDT. We'll definitely be joined by people from other time zones, including (as you can see above) one of our presentations from Chris of Four Kitchens in Austin TX.

If you have a look at the top of the event announcement you'll notice the "Start:" time includes timezone information.

Hope you get a chance to check in.

Oliver

Thanks for the awesome presentation, Chris & Elliott! It was VERY informative. I really liked this dual-meetup experiment & hope it was as good for y'all as it was for us. I sure hope we do this again.

Big ups to Four Kitchens & the folks from Austin for also making this happen.

p.s. And props on Austin being the next city getting Google Fiber (this Angeleno is mighty jealous!!) ;)
