Hi everyone,
Noticed that there are no user groups in bay area, other than this one. Closest ones are in SFO or Santa Cruz. I am interested in having more work sessions. Gauging the interest from everyone.
What do you think? We can have one in Palo Alto or Sunnyvale

Nice Idea
There was one bay area drupal group meet but it seems to be a one shot. Maybe the original organizer has other priorities. I can help get a new bay area group together, perhaps using groups.drupal and might be able to get space in the cupertino sunnyvale area.

Thanks
Yes it will be great if you can arrange for space. We should also get a rough poll of preferred time from people who might want to attend. Evenings starting around 5 should be good OR we can shoot for Saturday around 10 am.
Is there any time restrictions on the place you have?
day / time
5PM is too early for 9-5ers. Personally, I like Saturdays, but I know it would also limit attendees to only the more hard-core folks who don't have a life outside Tech :)
Mid week around 7PM is the sweet spot IMHO

Lets get started
This is a cross post from another thread. I accidently responded to the wrong group.
I am hoping whoever was an organizer for the south bay emails me. But I am thinking its a dead group. Good idea, good group of people, hard to get together or maybe with the way companies and jobs apear and dissapear one of the organizers wound up unable to continue.
I checked with the powers that be and I have a space to use with some restrictions. I work for a school district and I can book a classroom on certain evenings, rooms have sound and projector, however we have to follow california state law / ed code which means no beer. I am going to go look at the south bay group and the drupal groups and come up with a plan. I will report back here then maybe as a group we can restart the Bay Area Drupal group as the Silicon Valley Drupal User Group. (Bay Area and Berkeley seems to be really close)
OK my mind is all over the place this morning, to much caffeine and to little sleep from BADCamp.
Lets try to merge the Bay Area group and the South Bay Group, and create the Silicon Valley Group which is a better description. When You say Bay Area most people default to SF (As someone who works in Sunnyvale and lives in Dublin its annoying) Between the two groups I think we can get a good core and get the group started.
I am also offering space hoping that if we meet regularly and grow the group we can get offers of space from other places or companies.

South Bay Drupal Meetup
I emailed the organizer of the South Bay Meetup. And suggested merging into Bay Area or Merging both into a New Silicon Valley Group. If anyone wants to get with me on email let me know. I have completely trashed my personal website on a caffeine enduced personal drupal code sprint.

south bay curse
yeah, when i first moved back here a year ago, i was surprised that there was no 'silicon valley' DUG. shocking, no?
i think the best bet may be to have a sort of BoF session on it and start organizing it.
first thing on the agenda would have to be to define the region because i think that's a large part of the reason south bay doesn't have a DUG. 'bay area' really isn't a useful definition for a DUG region; it's just too big :) personally, i'd like to see either a silicon valley DUG or even a San Jose DUG.
from my experience starting the san diego DUG, i think the only way to get a DUG up and running is to get one or more people and just start scheduling regular meetings at a good location. same day/time/location every month. it was many months before we had a regular group at the san diego DUG, but it eventually caught on.
the toughest part is finding a really good location.

Silicon valley DUG
Silicon Valley DUG sounds rights. I agree that Bay Area is too broad. We seem to have a place in Cupertino now (at a school) which has boards and projector, and everything else we might need (except beer). I agree that a fixed time and place is very important every month and the attendance will catch on.
Silicon Valley DUG
Glad you are getting this restarted. Not sure I'll be able to make them but just an FYI that you are all also welcome to come down to the Santa Cruz DUG that meets the first Tuesday of every month from 7pm to 8:30pm(ish) in downtown Santa Cruz (normally at Nextspace). We had some changes in times/days over the first few months but have settled on this new schedule which works for most people.
Based on the SC DUG, I agree that a 7pm(ish) weekday start time would probably work for most people. Perhaps having it the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) xxxday of the month might be good in case some people did want to come down to the SC one. You could also check to see when the Berkeley and SF ones are and similarly try to schedule so they aren't in the same week if that could work out.
Good luck!

South Bay Area Group
I noticed this thread is posted on the Bay Area group and there is a South Bay Area group...
http://groups.drupal.org/south-bay-california
Perhaps you want to post a link there to see if there are some old group South Bay members who didn't see it here.

South Bay Area Group = Silicon Valley Group
Can't delete this comment so I will updated it... just looked at the South Bay group page and it is for Silicon Valley:

South Bay group meets regularly
Hi, I wondering if you are just out of the loop about the south bay group. I presented a couple months ago and there was about 70 people in attendance for my Drupal in the Enterprise talk.
Avi Harsh is the group organizer and he's got a South Bay Meet-up group that's very popular which he uses.
Cheers,
Kieran
South bay meetup is defunct
Hi,
The south bay meetup which was run by Avi is defunct. The last they met was in July. I contacted him, and there is nothing planned for future either.

Maybe not?
Actually Avi mentioned today that a future meetup on Semantic Web/RDF/Solr with Drupal is in the planning stages...his comment is here:

Lets get started
OK I am going to go out and set an initial date, time and location
I am looking at the calendar. How about first thursday night of the month (I can only get thursday evening space regularly)
Perhaps 6:30? I know 7 is popular but a good meeting winds up going really late and there is a 9:00 end point for all campus use.
Location would be Cupertino Sunnyvale Adult and Community Education. If I am a member of the group and ACE uses drupal then there is no fee for the space. When we overgrow the space we will have to find another.

Keep me posted
Subscribing - keep me posted. I do think it would be good not to have two competing Silicon Valley Drupal meetups; it would be great if organizers could join forces.
Mike, before setting it up ..
Hi Mike, Before setting anything up, we should make sure we are not overlapping days with other groups in the area (Santa Cruz, SF and Berkeley).
Kristen already confirmed they meet First Tuesday of the week.
I propose we should shoot for 2nd Thursday at 6:30 @ ACE. This would put the first meeting on 12th November.
Thanks Mike for the place again. We will keep adjusting as we go along.

Awesome
Really interested to be part of this group.

South Bay DRUPAL Groups
Hi,
The Meetups at South Bay DRUPAL Group have been fairly active and very well attended.
As of now, there are 250 members in the group.
http://www.meetup.com/DrupalGroup
Merging of the groups is not a bad idea given the fact that both are in South Bay.
Nevertheless, the next meetup was being planned for sometime mid November and it will will not be overlapping with the first Thursday of the month Meeting proposed by Mike.
Look forward to meeting everyone in person.
Best

i guess 'south bay' is
i guess 'south bay' is probably too broad a term too, eh?
so this meetup.com 'south bay drupal users group' meets in mountain view and has nothing to do with the groups.drupal.org south bay group which currently has no regular meetings, correct?

Hi, driving to the south bay isn't too far for the right topic. There's no reason to form a new group and isolate the folks in the south bay from the rest of the local Bay Area events. If the new organizers of the south bay group need admin privs for this group we can promote them.
