Inspiring Demo built on CiviCRM Starter Kit

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Most of you know the CiviCRM Starter Kit is a big part of the code included in the moderate and difficult level of the Community Media Starter Kits. At the moderate level, the functionality is split pretty evenly between Drupal and CiviCRM.

John Derry (@Time has come) created this great looking CiviCRM Demo Site. He built it on the CiviCRM Starter Kit using Pantheon. John gave we access to his site and I'm in the process of capturing all of that configuration into Features that will eventually be included with the Starter Kit and could be used as a starting point and/or learning tool for anyone interested in learning more about CiviCRM. There is no custom code. Just configuration and theming to highlight what already in CiviCRM "out of the box".

This is what I had hoped the Community Media Examples Feature exports would grow into.

I'm going to use the CiviCRM Demo Features at my CiviCRM session at Drupal Camp Austin and try to work through the remaining issues in @mallezie's amazing Features CiviCRM module.

There's still a lot of work to get stable releases of everything already in the Community Media Starter Kits working well with Media 2.x, OG2.x, and the 2.x branch of the the Community Media Theme (the one that includes the Zen sub theme), but there's also a lot of things that are very solid, well documented, and already running at several stations.

You can expect to see the CiviCRM Demo Features included in the CiviCRM Starter Kit by the end of the month or when the first beta of Features CiviCRM is released.

Features are on the radar

jdcreativity's picture

When features was introduced originally to people involved in cmdrupal sites it was on a platform that was still finding its footing. And it still is, but it has come a long way. I remember consolidating hard copies of cablecast agreement forms from many community access stations in order to begin to assemble the fields of a Show node that addressed some of the best practices around. At present I can push my Show metadata to Telvue and that is incredible. But Shows and Projects do need a champion because they need a push and they are that important.

I have a few ideas about how to configure these nodes and set up some views for them but I'm not available to put these development modules through the ringer. That is a need right now.

It is awesome to see what is happening on CiviCRM Starterkits and Pantheon. Thanks for sharing.

That's great indeed! Once we

That's great indeed! Once we have launched our new www.okv.se we will look into how we can use CiviCRM for a few things like volunteers, booking studio and to a small extent renting equipment (although in Sweden we don't get any funding for capital costs as in the US).

As for Shows and Projects, as mentioned by jdcreativity, I am looking into styling a view for these as part of the layout for our new okv.se. However, I'm a bit confused by having two views for a VOD and a show (some shows might not have a VOD, but still need to be accessed in the same way as show with VODs). But thinking of theming it a bit similar to this: http://www.svtplay.se/video/1259588/10-6-22-15?tab=episodes&sida=1

But perhaps we should start a new thread for discussing shows and projects, and the way different stations use them.

This sounds very cool, i'm

This sounds very cool, i'm really going to give this a test today. I'm really hoping this could be the awesome kickstart commerce showoff demo for Civicrm and Drupal.

I'm also hoping this could be the full start of the Civicrm features module, we will definitely going to develop this further, since we're going to use this on a project we work on, and IT's my belief this is necessary to easen the development - staging - live problem on a clean base. Which is also a necessity to use this on pantheon effectively.

Just a quick note that Civicrm_features is currently still in poc-fase, and far from feature complete, but i think the base is there to develop this further. Help and patches are very welcome, i'll try to work out the to-do list today, so we Can Have a battleplan.

Thank you for mentioning It is really cool to see people enthousiastic about this.

@mallezie, A battle plan

@mallezie,

A battle plan would be helpful. There are a few people involved in the CMDrupal group who pride themselves on being able to find the flaws in any software they use... or maybe the flaws find them. Not really sure. Regardless, when you are ready for more thorough testing of Features CiviCRM please post a request to this group.
