Potential Participating Non-Profit Organization for DrupalCamp 2010

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

With plans for Florida DrupalCamp 2010 well underway and our discussions about building a site for a non-profit organization on Day 2 of the camp, I figured I'd create a place to start capturing all of the good ideas as well as names of potential non-profit partners for the event.

The idea is that we're going to pair up seasoned Drupal developers with novice developers to build an entire Drupal site in one day for a local non-profit organization. We'll be selecting the organization to work with based on a number of factors - the most important being the desire and commitment to want to build an online community for their organization. We're in the process of creating an application form, but until then, I wanted to create a place where we could exchange ideas and, more importantly, start identifying some target organizations. Leave a comment below with any potential organizations you think we should contact. Please include more than just the name of the organization. A contact name is preferred. Please, please, please, don't include anyone's email address in your comment!

Want to help out some other way? Great - leave a comment below and let us know what you can do!

Thanks,
-mike

Legacy Projects International

There's a charity I'm involved with. We've opened a medical clinic in Haiti, have had some press, are associated with a non-profit and we have a vision for a new website http://www.legacyprojectsinternational.com (Legacy Projects International) that would be an eventbrite/meetup like site for showcasing global grass-root projects/organizations, along with fund-raising tools - like donation meters, email marketing, facebook, tweet, etc.

National MS Society Online Community for kids with MS

StuddMan's picture

I have been working with the mid-Florida director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Jim Obrien, to flush out a concept that is still in the early development stages but I believe this project could be so much bigger if the Florida Drupal community participated/contributed. The time line of Feb and early Spring matches their schedule.

The purpose of the site would be to create an online community for the kids and their families that supplements the MS camp they hold every year in the Orlando area. The kids form life long relationships at the camps but don't have a structured way to keep the monementum of the camp and stay connected with each other once they return to their normal lifes.

The sections of the site would include:

The Kids section: provide a safe harbor online that has all the social media bells and whistles; forums, blogs, chat, friending, meetups, photo and video galleries and the ability to tie it to their twitter, facebook or myspace pages.

The Parents section: A forum that allows parents a private area to support each other, organize and exchange ideas on parenting children with MS.

Life Line: A resource section for kids and parents on the latest treatments (drugs), news and developments in the fight against MS. Also may provide a chat and/or voice infrastructure for an online counseling service provided by the MS society.

Multi-site: There are 100+ chapters worldwide and they would like to be able to allow each chapter to create their own mini-site to promote local MS efforts and activities.

Whether this idea makes into

Whether this idea makes into the DrupalCamp or not, I would be delighted to help with this. I have some experience in this area that could be helpful! Feel free to contact me.

That's Awesome!

UCF writing center

Hi folks,

I'm the new Coordinator of the UCF writing center (a non-profit, I guess you could say), and I'd really like to develop a collaborative site for my writing tutors and, in the future, develop the site so that it grows to serve as a resource for faculty teaching writing across the university. I used to work at USF and helped work on the SharePoint site there: http://collegewriting.us (the largest website at USF now).

I'd like to know more and wondered if the weekly meetings are still ongoing.
