Drupal 8 well proceeded with it's readyness. Sure, it's a lot to do to make it ready, but now that the API freeze passed, we should not just wait till it's out...
It's time to start thinking about the next steps towards a stable and healthy Drupal ecosystem: Drupal Contrib needs to be ready too!
Thus we started the initiative to organize local sprints about Drupal 8 Contrib readyness NOW. The word to start contrib ports needs to be spread worldwide.
The first sprint starts at FRIDAY 2013-08-09 in Zurich at MD Systems, sure with remote participants always welcome.
These events are truly important for Drupal:
- Early adopters get access to the Core maintainers in person
- Speedup the Drupal 8 contrib adoption
- Make sure the Drupal 8 architecture knowhow gets distributed
- Have good examples within the Drupal 8 contrib ecosystem for others to followup
- Verify Drupal 8 core patterns, identify real-life problems and fix them as long as there is room
- People that don't feel yet core-contributor-ready will participate
- Community knowhow gaps can be easily identified and fixed
- It's simply fun ;-)
... and a lot more.
This all leads to drastically shorter time to market of Drupal 8.
Also it's likely some people will finally participate Drupal 8 core development and we can trigger extra momentum again in making core ready.
When are you going to organize your own local Drupal 8 contrib sprint event?
