Newbie question: creating a taxonomy item view with description at top

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi,
I am new to Drupal, and am using the Open Outreach project to create a website for a local non-profit radio program. I have created a taxonomy with the name of each radio show (there are 3), and would like to somehow create a page that displays the description of the show (taxonomy term) at the top, followed by a list of all the programs.

Here is an example at the old website: http://www.northernspiritradio.org/index.asp?command=programInfo&id=1

Here is what I can get with the existing "Taxonomy term" view: http://northernspiritradio.net/?q=show-name/spirit-action

Should I edit the default view, and if so, how? Or is there a way to create a block with the term description in it, and then add it to another view that I create?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

From looking at the two links

From looking at the two links I'm assuming you are missing the description of the show, so my answer is in reference to that assumption.
I did something similar for the departments within the city of sun prairie website, you need to create two contextual filters. One based on the node id of the content you want to show, and the other based the a taxonomy term within the content type you want to display.

For example, each department displays specific content that only relates to that department. Department A only wants content for department A not Department B content. Within the content type, front page article, I have a view that has 2 contextual filters. The content type, front page department article, has a list of departments, which the user selects based on where the article is supposed to go. The departments are the taxonomy terms. Then in the views I select both the node ID and the taxonomy terms. Within the contextual filter, when the filter is NOT available, provide a default value, taxonomy term ID from the url, and pick the vocabulary.

I don't know how to upload images here, otherwise, I'd show you my screen shots.

My users are able to only post content to their individual departments as well, but I think that is outside the scope of your question.

For what you want to do, I would create a program description content type. Within that content type, create a field that is something like, what program, then link that to the taxonomy terms with term reference. Then make view based on the above information, using contextual filters.

If my answer is not what you're looking for or you need more help, please let me know.

As I thought about this more, not knowing how you've setup the structure, you could just make a description for the content type, which would then add the info about the program, and make a view with the programs associated to that content type. Just make sure you display the description.

Please send screen shots

Could you please send me screen shots to show what you did to my gmail account? (firesidelibrarian) I am a little confused by what you suggest. Thanks!
