Next Drupal meetup in Dundee will be a core issue sprint to help Drupal 8 achieve formal release. Learn how to write core Drupal code and how to give back to the community. EVENT CANCELLED - SEE COMMENTS
Everyone is welcome; if you have built a site in Drupal, you can contribute. For new folks: you can get a head start also by making an account on Drupal.org and taking a look at the Drupal Ladder http://drupalladder.org/
We will have a brief introduction, then split into pairs and work on Drupal core issues. We'll select a variety of issues beforehand - some don't require any coding experience.
- Bring your laptop + PSU.
- If possible, install Git (http://git-scm.com/downloads) before coming
git cloneDrupal 8 core (more info at http://drupalmentoring.org/sprint)- You might find installing an IDE* useful, although most text editors are probably up to the job.
All attendees must sign up so that we can allocate you a wifi account for the day. This will probably be slightly longer meetup than normal, so we'll provide some food and drink (any companies interested in sponsorship, please get in touch with me).
We'll meet in room 2S17 in the Dalhousie Building (http://www.dundee.ac.uk/general/campusguide/virtualtour/dalhousie/) on Tuesday 17th September. The room is available from 6.30 and we'll kick off promptly at 7. We have to vacate the room by 9pm, so we should take any unresolved issues either to the pub (Braes - which has wifi) or home to work on later.

(* IDE: Integrated Development Environment. If you don't have one, Eclipse (https://drupal.org/node/75242 for config info) and Netbeans (https://drupal.org/node/1019816) are pretty popular)

Learn About Drupal 8
Still have space for Tuesday night's code sprint in Dundee. Come and learn how Drupal's code is made. Free nibbles, drink and beer to be provided...
John's tagged a few issues at https://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?issue_tags=CodeSprintDundee
And for anyone feeling up to the job we can pick any Critical issue (currently only 51 critical bugs blocking a release of Drupal 8): https://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?status%5B%5D=Open&priori...
Anyone (I do mean anyone) can turn up and join in. There are quite a few issues that just require you to review a patch (ie, apply the patch and test the functionality). Every patch requires successful testing by 2 or more people: you could be one of those people on Tuesday night.

Unable to make it tonight.
Hi Rob,
I'm under the weather this morning. It's a real bummer as I was really looking forward to this, but I think it's probably best if I stay in tonight.
Thanks,

Travelling from Edinburgh?
Hi, I'd love to attend this event but live in central Edinburgh without a car.
Anybody going from Edinburgh? Can contribute to fuel costs...
Suzanne.

Hi,
I'm also living in Edinburgh and without car. If someone is going from Edinburgh it would be great to share car and expenses.

Tonight's Code Sprint in Dundee Postponed
A few people are now unable to make it, and we haven't had too many signups... so we're going to cancel tonight's meetup in Dundee.
We're now going to plan a Drupal Scotland mini-DrupalCamp and Code Sprint in Oct/Nov, either in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dundee, which take place on a Saturday for all Scottish (and beyond) Drupalistas to attend. In the morning we'll have beginner and more advanced sessions on Git, Twig, Symfony... in fact anything that will help you understand Drupal 8. After lunch, we'll then have the whole afternoon for a mentored code sprint... then beers afterwards.
Sounds good? I should cocoa.
So apologies for those of you trying to get up to Dundee tonight - and a big thanks to John Hume (@littledynamo) who had done a lot of prep for the sprint.
Next meetup in Dundee will be on Tue 15 October. Details tba
Ah.
Ah, came to signup, found cancellation. Apologies for not signing up sooner, though it sounds like illness etc is keeping other people away too. Shame.
I look forward to the Saturday camp/sprint and next months meet up.
Hey all, For those of you who
Hey all,
For those of you who haven't seen it (and apologies to those who have), I'm arranging a Drupal 8 sprint in Edinburgh. Likely on Thu 24 Oct, or possibly the Thursday after that. I'll be speaking to a pub just up the road from our offices to see about getting space there - in case we have more than the Heehaw office can hold in one room!
