Commerce and Taxes
Good timing as I am starting on my first Commerce site. I've used Ubercart in the past.
Has anyone done taxes with Commerce? I see there is a way to connect it to a service called AvaTax, which does all the calculation per state or down to the zip code level. Otherwise it looks like you can set up rules for each tax, but that would be really tedious for state taxes.
We're using the Commerce
We're using the Commerce AvaTax connector, but the module is still in development, so its usability might depend on your specific use case.
Snacks and Beverages
Tableau is nice enough to allow us to bring in food and beverages. Anyone interested in bringing any food/drinks tonight?

Backdrop discussion followup
At the Sep 19th Seadug meeting, we spent about 25 minutes discussing the Backdrop fork of Drupal.
In this lengthy Sep 20th podcast from Lullabot, Addison Berry is joined by Nate Haug and Jen Lampton to talk about their new project in detail. Several questions via Twitter were answered:

https://www.lullabot.com/blog/podcasts/backdrop-drupal-fork
My take-aways:
* BD forked from an early verision of D8
* Twig will not be used for BD theming
* The project is operating on a shoestring, hence Indiegogo
* There is ~9 months of work before a release
* ~50 people are collaborating on github
* Jen and Nate will be at Druplcon
* Performance is a goal, hence no database abstraction, etc.
* Porting D6 & D7 modules to BD will be easier than to D8
* BD will capture a good % of developers who won't move to D8
* Nate will port his modules to BD instead of D8
* Jen wants to be able to fix her client website problems in her sleep.
