Australian Drupal Association?

Do we need an Australian Drupal Association?

Purpose:
To co-ordinate with the Drupal Association [ Ref: http://drupal.org/node/122835 ] in
a. facilitating support for the Drupal project within Australia.
b. promoting Drupal in Australia.

An interesting question.

I wonder if the Drupal Association have given the matter of regional 'chapters' any thought? Perhaps we should ask.

I see that there are two areas of need in Australia. The first is for Drupal techs and other interested people to have a group in which they can share ideas and find support relating to the use of Drupal. The second is that Drupal is still to hit the big time in Australia - its coming though I'm sure. Should we as a group be active in the promotion of Drupal and growing of the use of Drupal in Australia? Can the one group do both things? Should they be separate? Would there be enough backing for a 'promotion' association to make it effective?

My thought is that greater awareness of and use of Drupal in Australia can only be a good thing for all of us. It means more work for consultants and greater support for site owners, and ultimately contributes to the ongoing success of the project.

I will be keen to hear others thoughts.

I'm very interested, I have not found many Drupal developers or even training facilities in Adelaide. It would be good to get in contact with more Drupal zealots!
