How do I iterate over the jsAC objects in autocomplete?

Hi everyone.

As you can see from a cursory view of my "Practical Dojo Lesson: An autocomplete nodereference field that is dependent upon a choice made in another" (http://groups.drupal.org/node/3471), I was able to redefine autocomplete handlers (to be triggered by uri registered with menu callback), but I was not able to get rid of the "old" (created on page load, or "ready" event) handlers. I had to send the latter to the bytebucket.

I spent some time with Firebug trying to find a handle to iterate over all the jsAC objects (see misc/autocomplete.js) but was unsuccessful. As I see it, they float in namespace, but have no container. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Wanted to discuss this briefly on this group before raising it as an issue, since there may be some simple answer I am currently blind to.

If there is no container, there should be an easily addressable one.

Or, look at what I have done and tell me please what better way there might be to accomplish the same thing. Something tells me it shouldn't have been so difficult to do.

saludos,
