Hi there
I am new to Drupal, all accidental I am afraid. A friend has a site built by someone but then lost touch with the designer, I've no idea why, but they don't communicae with each other. e then asked if I was able to add some ecommerce to the site. So I established the site as built with Drupal then I found Drupal Ecommerce, I haven't done anything with it yet but hopefully I can learn how to install an ecommerce facility to the existing site. So any guidance anyone can offer in getting started with Drupal and its ecommerce perspective would be gratefully appreciated.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
I'd recommend that you start with a look at http://www.drupalcommerce.org/ and trying out Commerce Kickstart, which you can download from there. It'll give you a good illustration of the various commerce modules that are worth using and how they can all be set up.
If the shop itself doesn't have to be specifically part of the site, you could even just skin the Kickstart distribution and e.g. run it on a subdomain, or you could potentially build the rest of the site into that, rather than trying to build the shop into the existing site. All depends on what you've currently got and what your requirements are, of course.
Hope that helps,
Bryan

PS... you could also consider options such as Ecwid (http://www.ecwid.com/) or similar. While I'm very much a fan of Drupal and Drupal Commerce, it's always worth weighing up the various options against your requirements, practicalities of implementing solutions, and so on.

Thanks for the info.
At the moment the site lists all the products he has with prices and the odd description but little more information.
I suppose running as a subdomain would be possible. I'll also have a read about ecwid.

Check modules installed
I would check the modules you have installed first. If you have products and prices maybe you already have an eCommerce module at least partially configured.
Also you might want to find out which version of Drupal the site is using.
I just checked and they have
I just checked and they have version 7. I'll have to do a wee bit of reading, and have a look inside the modules list to see exactly what they have and whether anything looks remotely "ecommercey".
