The High Desert Drupal group meets the first Wednesday of every month. This local group is a nice place for people to learn and talk about Drupal, a world popular content management system (CMS). We also talk about web development in general, covering all aspects from planning, design, development, and maintaining a web site. RSVP is not required and attendance is free. Tell all your friends!
What are we going to talk about?
Advanced SVN management.
When you're working on a team with multiple developers, using a version control system is key to success. BUT, what happens when you need to test out new functionality and DO NOT want to share those changes, in the active development branch that your colleagues are using, until you are ready? How do you track an external SVN repository, like Acquia Drupal, in your own repository and manage the changes from an external SVN repository with your own SVN repository? How do you get SVN to ignore certain files? Is there an easy way to add files to the SVN repository recursively without going into each directory to explicitly see which need to be added? Tom Friedhof, from ActiveLAMP, will be presenting on "Effectively using the SVN version control system."
And...
Drupal 7 Forms API.
After Tom's talk, Kevin Herrington, from ActiveLAMP, will be giving us a sneak peak at the upcoming changes to the Forms API in Drupal 7. API changes are inevitable with every new major version of Drupal. Kevin is going to let us know what changes to look forward to in the new Forms API.
And Then...
Optimizing jQuery
Helior Colorado, from ActiveLAMP, will briefly discuss best practices on creating faster jQuery scripts. jQuery’s DOM traversal is powerful and easy, but it can sometimes be slow as well. As with any JavaScript library or framework, the helper methods will be slower than the plain old JavaScript (p.o.j) methods. Nevertheless, if we keep in mind the jQuery’s speed hierarchy, the speed difference between jQuery and p.o.j. will often be negligible.
Where are we meeting?
