Is anyone interested in Drupal startups? There's a Startup Weekend in northern NJ (that I'll be heading to) this weekend March 28-30. It would be great to form some Drupal teams right at the beginning of the hackathon; Drupal is an amazing tool for Startup Weekends, but usually poorly represented compared to Ruby etc. Let's change that!

One startup-weekend project that would push Drupal into the startup world would be to build a better website for hackathons -- coordinate forming teams of people who live near you, improve the pitches, improve the competition, plus do many of the conference basics that COD does. It could be a fun project that gets Drupal a bigger role at hackathons, or turn into a startup specialized in conference websites.
I'd be interested to hear other people's ideas for Drupal-based startups. I'm deciding between pitching building that hackathon-website distribution, or a website+community that gamifies better communications between liberals and conservatives, or a tool for people suffering from depression to more easily ask their friends for help with clarity and without overwhelming them. If you can make it, I'd love to share ideas and coordinate a Drupal contingent...

I'm certainly interested in promoting Drupal in this realm, but I was out of town during this particular event. Maybe next time we can offer something like pre-hackathon Drupal mentoring or a workshop?

Peter -- that sounds like a great idea, especially a workshop before and maybe mentoring in the middle of the hackaton. These are great opportunities for people who have started but aren't yet senior developers to jump in and challenge themselves ... but enough Drupal people have to go and find each other to form teams, or nothing happens.
