Introductions

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this thread to say hey and also wondering how we can 'rally the troops' in Chicago. The east and west coast make a lot of noise but we in Chicago 'get things done' ;)

But anyway, introductions?

Hey all,

Sayin hey as well. I am a partner in a new media company that deals with Film Production, Web and Graphic design. For more info about myself and what I do, check out my profile or just shoot me an email.

I started this group because it seems like the drupal community gets larger and larger everyday yet there is no Chicago presence. I'd love to meet up with everyone sometime soon as possible to see how we can start contributing/learning more about Drupal. I would be happy to hold a small meet and greet at my office, with wi-fi, on South Michigan but perhaps we could think of a more interesting place to hold a meet up.

Look forward to hearing from everyone,

I'm just curious, do we know who worked on this chicagoartistresource.org site? Was it by chance you, orbert?

CAR

seanbfuller's picture

CAR was done by Tractiv (myself and robray among others). It's a 4.6 install with a number of custom modules. Rob and I would like to attend the first Chicago meetup, so keep us posted.

Thanks for starting this

Thanks for starting this group.

I think having a local resource would be invaluable. Would be happy to meet up.

I filled in some of my profile stuff so I won't bore you with all that here again.

I have implemented one drupal site for a client - http://www.planofchicago2009.org/ The basic plumbing is in place. The graphic designs won't be ready for some time, so I decided on the Friends Electric theme for now. Once the design team is done with their work, I'll be translating their designs into the necessary templates.

Ciao

Hello Chicago

spudart-gdo's picture

Hi there, I'm Matt Maldre, a graphic designer that has done several drupal sites for myself:

http://www.penguinpad.com
--site for penguin lovers
--theme: custom template of my design

http://www.chicagobean.com
--chicago event listings
--theme: democratica template (with some mods)

http://www.worldsumoleague.com
--the first fan site of the World Sumo League
--theme: default (still going to go in and do some major modifications)

http://www.christiannotebook.com/books
--a Christian bookstore
--theme: custom theme designed from structure of bluemarine

and some sites more in the plans.

It would be great to meet up with other drupal people in chicago.

Hello Chicago

Hello all - I saw a posting on Craigs list Chicago and wanted to post here.

I'm from Chicago and living in LA for last two years. I'm finally moving back to Chicago at the end of May. Thank G$D. I hate LA.

Anyway, here's first Drupal site - it's in spanish and english and no, I don't speak spanish. It was for a client in LA.

Thanks...and hopefully I will be talking with you people soon. Thanks again.

Chicago Drupal Newbie

gmedrano's picture

Hello everybody,

My name is Gilberto Medrano; I am a UI designer/programmer (a bit C#, Rails, eXtremme programming stuff) and web design (CSS and HTML). I started learning a bit about Joomla! but then I heard about Drupal and its many benefits comparing to Joomla! like Object Oriented programming support and more control over the code.

I am a newbie and don't have any web site done in Drupal yet (hope to get it done soon) so I really appreciate this opportunity to join forces and learn from each other.

Hope to hear from the group soon.

Best regards,

Gilberto

I'm a recent convert to Drupal. Love it.

Just did my first site with Drupal. It's based on the Kubrick theme.

A Chicago group sounds great. Count me in.

Hello from Evanston

I didn't know this group existed, cool!

I don't use Drupal professionally, unfortunately, but have been an enthusiast for the past year or so and am slowly in the process of launching a dot com based on it, in addition to my day job as a LAMP developer for a small consulting firm. I tried to convince them to use Drupal, but they didn't go for it. :-)

Hello everyone, I just

Hello everyone, I just subscribed to this group. I hope we can have some interesting meetings.

Hi all. I've been using

Hi all. I've been using Drupal for about 4 months and have contributed a few views-related modules (Event Views, Location Views, and Views Calc). My bio stuff is on the Drupal site. I live in central Illinois, so I'd really like a central Illinois group, but I'll settle for Chicago :-) I have a 2-3 hour drive so won't be able to make all meetings, but would like to try when I can. My preference would be mid-day because of the drive, but I'll work around whatever I have to since I'm probably an exception.

Anyone else from central Illinois out there??

Hi Everyone!

My name is leo -- though usually I go by the name of 'patachon' (it's a long story).

Formerly I had worked on largely static sites -- most notably IllinoisForKerry where I was the webmaster.

I've been working on Drupal sites for around a year. My first site was IllinoisDemNet. I'm no developer per se but I'm comfortable putting bits of script here and there to answer my needs. Increasingly I find I'm able to rearrange and alter things, allowing for a greater use of graphic design.

My latest site is PavichForCongress.com which I put together for John Pavich who's running for Congress in IL-11.

I look forward to the Meetup.

Hi from Chicago

Hi everyone,

I just joined to see if I can learn a bit more about Drupal. I am the owner of www.links.com, and I am in the midst of re-designing with a new direction for Links.com. I am going to try to attend future meetings so that I can meet everyone as I look for assistance with the development of the site. Cya soon,

Rich

Hey All

NonProfit's picture

Hey All, I'm a print designer by training (BA, '93), and hopped on the HTML bandwagon back around '97. This, in one form our another, has been my vocation since. I've spent the last few months figuring out Drupal's basics and am really impressed with what it can do and the support the forums have provided. I'm living in the far western suburbs and would like to meet up sometime and geek out. -NP
