User group meeting

Join us on Thursday, September 25, 2014, 6:30pm at Ryan's Village Pizza in Cocoa Village for another one of our bi-monthly meetups.

I'll be leading a hands-on demo of the Features module. We'll be focusing on multiple-developer Features workflow, so bring your laptop and a fresh Drupal 7 site. We'll be using our "classroom-in-a-box" server, so we'll be able to push/pull features to a Git repository that we can all access. It should be a great learning experience for everyone interested in the Features module. If you'd like to participate, please ensure your local machine has:

  1. A fresh copy of Drupal 7 up-and-running, with the Features and Strongarm modules installed.
  2. Drush
  3. Git

WiFi at Ryan's is marginal at best, so be sure to get setup prior to showing up!

We'll also be talking about future meetup topics and early planning for Florida DrupalCamp 2015.

Thanks,
-mike

Mike and I will be

Mike and I will be resurrecting the conference in a box, since wifi is a little weak at Ryan's.

If you plan on participating, you need to do some setup locally first:

  1. Grab this key pair: https://copy.com/1POxNCVn0LqbMD0F
  2. Have git installed and ready to go
  3. Set up a your ssh using these settings in your ~/.ssh/config file:

Host 192.168.1.100
    HostName 192.168.1.100
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/dcsp-key

Simply add this to your ~/.ssh/config file or create a new one if you don't have one.

You may need to properly set the permissions for the ssh keys once you download them.

You'll clone the repo like this:

$ git clone gitolite@192.168.1.100:features

Please come prepared and set up ready to go so that we can work on using features and pushing them to a git repository. If you don't have git set up and installed and your keys added, you won't be able to participate.

typo?

Ben,

Shouldn't the "Host" and "HostName" be 192.168.1.100?

Host 192.168.1.100
    HostName 192.168.1.100
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/dcsp-key

-mike

Yeah. You could try

bhosmer's picture

Yeah. You could try adding

HostName dcsp.class

But on some machines that name won't resolve. It's easier just to use the ip address because that can always be found.

Oh, and this won't work unless you are actually connected to the classroom in a box, which happens to be off in my office at this time.

At the meetup, there will be a new wifi network called DCSP. You'll need to join that network to access the server.

I just created a quick screencast of how I implemented Ben's instructions above...

I fixed the ip address typos.

I fixed the ip address typos.

Oh, and DO NOT use these keys

bhosmer's picture

Oh, and DO NOT use these keys with ANYTHING else.

Everyone has access to these keys, meaning if you use them somewhere else, everyone will have access to that too.

Reminder - Brevard Meetup tonight

ultimike's picture

Hey everybody,

Don't forget about tonight's Brevard County Drupal meetup at Ryan's Pizza at 6:30pm. Come hungry, grab a slice of pizza, then open up your laptop and participate in tonight's "hands on with Features" presentation.
