Drupalcon SF Presentation on Salesforce Integration?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Anyone planning to do a presentation on Salesforce integration at Drupalcon? I've gotten to know it relatively well in the past month or so, and I've begin to contribute to the drupal/sf modules. We're putting in a lot of investment (through a number of client projects) into the integration in the next few months.

It would be great if someone who has been central to the development of the module is planning on doing a presentation. I'd love to be of help in any way I can.

We're submitting a session on Drupal > SF Integration

TJ Griffin's picture

We're planning on submitting a session. My sense is that there's not a very wide adoption of Drupal > SF and while I'm confident that will change, it's likely not to change significantly between now and April. Regardless, we'll submit one and see what happens...maybe it will just be a BoF.

Hey perlbear! I'm not

Hey perlbear!

I'm not involved in the module maintenance, but I'll be in San Fran and have been doing some internal things with Salesforce. We should compare roadmaps and see if there's ways to share effort / collaborate.

Hi Trevor

pearlbear's picture

It will be great to see you in SF, and I'd love to talk. Let's definitely find a time to sit down and chat. I'm hoping that the nonprofit-oriented folks interested in drupal/salesforce integration can work together in the same way as the Plone folks have.

I've been contributing a bit to the module, and also am beginning to maintain a module that integrates the salesforce_api module and feedapi (and in the process of moving it to integrate with feeds, instead.)

Nice! I've been working on a

Nice!

I've been working on a module that checks a field in an org (SF Account) record and assigns a user role with that value, creating the role it if it doesn't exist.

Definitely interested in the feeds integration.

I think Aaron has submitted a

I think Aaron has submitted a BOF....it seems like that might be the best place to connect. When we connected two weeks ago we talked about doing a show and tell prior to DrupalCon, so that may be an opportunity for all people with SF integration interests to lay out what they're doing.

I'd love to see a presentation on this

dago.aceves's picture

I've been working with the Salesforce module for a while now and have come up with several ideas to implement, but it seems that either the guys are keeping their progress under wraps or just not updating that frequently.

A presentation on what is to come would be great. Especially seeing that SalesForce themselves are moving forward with a new release soon.

The latter

The two primary maintainers were busy with other things. Aaron became a new maintainer, and a lot has been happening in the last few weeks, but I think the primary issue is that there just aren't a lot of developers working on this module.

They are open to patches, for sure.

Agreed, and now that a lot of

Agreed, and now that a lot of the issues have been rolled into the latest release it will be easier to get the other patches rolled in as well. I see I have some reviewing to do :D

Hello

Ron.Brash's picture

I will be attending Drupalcon and I am a bit disappointed that the SF session did not make it:(

Will any of you be attending and will there be any gatherings over a pint or coffee? I would like to network with other professionals who have been involved with the beast called SF and whom somehow make it work with their Drupal installation.

I'll be trying to attend

dago.aceves's picture

But if possible, I'd be up for a pint and talk about the module. I've been working with the module and with a client who feeds me lots of good stuff about the salesforce side of things. The integration certainly has a long ways to go and I'd love to maybe coordinate an effort to get it going faster

Sounds great

Ron.Brash's picture

One of my main employers use Salesforce fanatically and we do some interesting things with it - like product licensing. It would certainly be great to work on this with you because in the past I contributed on http://www.mikesimonds.com/salesforce-php-tutorials/

I should think there are others of us out there attending or at least will be in the area.

I'd totally be up for coffee

trevortwining's picture

I'd totally be up for coffee or any other beverage for that matter to talk about these issues. Seems like enough people are interested now that we can get a critical mass working on things.

Me too

Count me in!

Discussion Topics

Ron.Brash's picture

If some of us are meeting up, perhaps a bit of pre-event conversation should be attempted:

A few of the key areas which need to be addressed in my opinion are:

  • Site security when using SF integration
  • What is possible, what is not
  • Portal integration
  • Cases
  • Leads
  • Accounts/ Contacts
  • How have you used it? How do you want to use it?

BoF Session

acronym's picture

I can try and organize a Birds of a Feather session sometime during the conf. I live locally and can possibly check on (make reservations) for an external location as well. I'll need to get a head count first.

Count me in. It would be

Count me in. It would be nice to hear the stories of others who have shared the same pains with SF.

Low head count

dago.aceves's picture

I know there's more interest then then the current head count.
@Ron.Brash - I liked your list of topics to cover. It hits all the major points I'd certainly like to see discussed.
DrupalConSF will probably be very busy, and since SF didn't make the session list, there will probably be more buzz out there about covered topics. I wanted to propose a series of GoToMeeting chats. Cover each topic is order of popularity. If anybody wants to head up a topic we can group up and make a presentation to cover what is available, what we want to see, and strategy to get there. Personally, I'd like to talk about the admin and working with the salesforce module through the UI.

I agree, I think theres alot of interest but

Ron.Brash's picture

Where is everyone lol. I think this conference will be a bit of a busy adventure, but @daco.aceves and anyone else thats interested.. lets all meet up and have some coffee at some point.

I like the idea of GoToMeetings... we should perhaps record similarly to the Drupal Dojo material so others down the road can learn. My bosses are very interested in integrating seamlessly with SF so I may be able to pull a few spare cycles after the conference to create some presentations. I will definitely start a topic since I think this would be very invaluable.. I don't see SF disappearing due to the fact they just teamed up with VMware to showcase cloud computing (love/hate)

Where, when?

pearlbear's picture

I'm likely only going to part of Drupalcon - so it would be great to know where and when people might be gathering... Any suggestions/ideas?

I'm up for some GoToMeetings - I think that would be a good way to draw a wider audience of folks who won't be in SF next week.

I don't know the area at all

Ron.Brash's picture

I don't know the area at all or the venue really. Will you be going to the opening?

There are a couple of coffee

TJ Griffin's picture

There are a couple of coffee shops within walking distance of Moscone (Peet's and Epicenter), I believe both have WiFi. However, it might be best to use one of the BOF rooms and broadcast from there. I've emailed drupalconbof@fuzetto.com to reserve one, but who knows. If not, folks can descend on a coffee shop. We might also be able to meet at coworking space or at friend's offices with conference rooms (I have one in particular in mind).

What about timing? Is Tues am good?

Tuesday is okay

Ron.Brash's picture

Tuesday morning is pretty busy for me, if its before 8:30 its okay though.. I am free after lunch until about 4.

I will have my Blackberry down there for emergencies, but its probably easier to get ahold of me on Skype ronniebrash or email ron@byressecurity.com.

Coffee shop

dago.aceves's picture

I like the coffee shop idea. I'm available early in the morning. I know this is coming together all very quickly and I feel we might not scoop up as many people that are interested but I like the buzz. Because several people probably already made plans for during the con, would an early (this weekend, sunday is best for me) meetup work for anyone? I wasn't planning on attending the precon events.

Coffee shop

Ron.Brash's picture

I fly in tomorrow around noon, then check into my hotel. Free all day after that. I got some training to go to Sunday, but I could meet up in the evening.

TJ Griffin's picture

Deborah will be posting a new room schedule soon...room number forthcoming.

This room will have a projector so we should be able to do show and tells, etc.

*** update ***

we'll be in room 212

Great see you there

dago.aceves's picture

@goddangme - very cool, I'll see you there. I'd like to make the most of our time. top 3 things to discuss brainstorm here. I think if everybody throws in a couple of suggestions we can take the top three. Here are my top two
1) Admin UI
2) record type suppport

custom objects

Ron.Brash's picture

Custom objects and merges are another topic of hell that scares anyone.... I will be there, I was at the venue today and will be there again tomorrow.

BoF session

juanzo007's picture

@acronym - well done, thanks for setting this up! See you there.

See you all there after the

Ron.Brash's picture

See you all there after the keynote. I was speaking to a company that specializes in Voip Drupal integration and there was some slight interest in SF as well. I have noticed at Drupalcon so far that alot of people know of Salesforce, BUT, its the big elephant in the corner of the room and seen with a little bit of a stigma attached to it.

Perhaps we can change this if just a little bit.

SF Talks

dago.aceves's picture

If anybody is interested, i'll probably be burning some time at the BoF room if anybody wants to talk shop beforehand.

Sure thing, if you see

Ron.Brash's picture

Sure thing, if you see someone that looks a bit over dressed with a brown tie yell at me.
