Purpose:
Allow people to work on contributed projects in a working group environment. This session will be like the original Drupal Ladder but geared more towards contributed modules instead of Core.
Summary:
Contributing to Drupal Core can be intimidating what with all those super smart Drupal experts questioning everything you do. It can seem overwhelming to learn a section of core and track down all the areas where your changes will affect the system. The Drupal Ladder aimed at reducing the level of entry with the goal of getting to a 1% core contributor mark for D8.
We feel that while this is a great goal to have, there are those in the Drupal Community that would rather stay away from core itself and build their own functionality to Drupal. Whether it be due to business reasons (a user needs very specific functionality for their own business case) or other just want to scratch an itch, users contributing to the Drupal Contrib list of modules is just as important.
How:
We are going to be starting up a Drupal meetup in Boulder that will act as a working session only, there aren’t going to be scheduled presentations during this meetup but there will be others there that can help get you on your way to becoming a Drupal contributing member of the community.
We are looking to help with:
- Getting you set up with a dev environment
- Learning different module hooks and coding standards
- Digging through the issue queues and contributing to those
- Building your own module
- Getting through the Project application process to get Git access (https://www.drupal.org/node/1011698)
- Adding template files to your theme
- Building or extending your own theme
In order to achieve this, we are also looking for others in the community that are experienced in the above (or other) aspects of Drupal contributions.
When:
This meetup will have it’s first meeting on January 21, 2015 and will occur on the 3rd Wednesday of each month after that.
Our hope is that people will come eager to learn and meet others in the local Drupal community.
