Call for suggestions for the new layout for the Montreal group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Howdy folks,

Sorry it took me so long... but I finally got around to moving the job posts out of the main column of our group. Note, however, that this is a work in progress and I'd like to invite suggestions and help from the community before proceeding much further. There's some content missing (e.g. polls, wiki pages etc. which will require more panel panes to be created), a lot of other stuff that could be added (e.g. a calendar) and no real logic to how things are laid out currently.

I just took advantage of a small window of time in order to carry out the basic mandate that seemed to have emerged from the group. I'll try to do the obvious stuff (like adding missing content) when I get the chance and I encourage any of the other group admin's to do the same. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

Meanwhile, you are all hereby invited to contribute your ideas here as to how we should organise the content in this group. And this isn't just about the front page front page, there's tagging, secondary pages, wiki pages, polls, proposals, etc.

In other words, we need to think about what the purpose of this group is and how we can organise the content in order to maximise its effectiveness.

Thanks... and let the games begin!

Couple of things

Hi Omar,

First thing I noticed is that the pagers are gone. "More" leads back to GDO front page. Next, http://groups.drupal.org/montreal-quebec/jobs is empty, although the sidebar shows lots of jobs and the RSS link shown for GDO/mtl/jobs is the same as the main one. I think you had suggested having two separate RSS feeds and I'd still like that.

[UPDATE]: I found a RSS feed for the jobs but as you can see, it's less than straightforward: http://groups.drupal.org/jobs/feed?group_nid=558&keys=&field_type_value_...

Looking forward to the new layout!

P.S.: maybe there's another GDO group some of us enjoy for its design? Please say so, we could use the inspiration.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll get to work on this stuff as soon as I have a chance... who knows, maybe even later on today. BTW, any chance you'd like to become an admin again?

No stress, I'm just mentionned what I noticed, no complaints from me, glad it's taken care of :)

As for being an admin, I still need to get my own sh*t together and I'm not there yet. Eventually I'll be in a position to reconsider. Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it.

oh well

If nobody is going to step up, maybe you should give me admin rights if that means I can fix a few things around here. I'll make the time since these little things are really bugging me personally. Where do I sign up? :)

I made you admin...

again :-)

The events block is empty...

UPDATE: OK, I fixed this.

This is likely out of your control...

...but one thing that is a fairly critical-ish bug is that it's currently impossible to see any posts previous to the last 10. :\ There's no pager, and the "more" link just takes you back to the g.d.o home page.

I just added the pager...

Rough going

omar's picture

Despite my experience with panels, I am having a hard time working with the panels on g.d.o.. E.g. I'm not sure how to show past events. I probably just need to come up with the right argument to add to the "events" view, but I haven't managed to get it right so far.

I looked around and I don't

I looked around and I don't see how I have control on any to of that to fix it as an Admin for the group :(

Hmmm... let's see.

g.d.o. has been quite screwed for a while now so I wouldn't be surprised...

For me there is a "pages" tab once logged in, then I click on "Edit content" for the one with "Montreal & Quebec" as a title which leads to:

http://groups.drupal.org/node/558/og_panels/578/panel_content?destinatio...

Do you have access to this?

Omar

I see that. Sorry for the

Robin Millette's picture

I see that. Sorry for the delay, I disabled ALL the notifications I was getting from 100s of websites.

There are now pagers for group members, jobs and the actual content, but they all lead to the same page, yet their numbers vary. I have access to the panel config and I see a Pager ID but I don't think a have access to all I need to fix it. http://drupal.org/node/631572 has more info on the topic.

Jobs listing

benoit.borrel's picture

What's going on with the Jobs tab? I'm glad to see job posts getting kicked out of the front page quickly since it means we are an active community, but being not able to list them all in the Jobs tab (apart the feed...) is frustrating. Could it be fixed? May I help in that matter?

Thanks,

Benoit Borrel
