I created an EC2 account, got my pair key etc.
I found the mercury beta image and launched it. I chose all default settings.
I can ssh to the public DNS.
But, when i try to load the public DNS in a web browser, it always times out.
I've tried this repeatedly. Do the default security group settings need to be modified in some way?

Security groups are my first guess
I forgot to set them properly when I started with Mercury and was baffled as to why ssh and icmp were both blocked.
security groups
Thanks, that was it. I found that I needed to add:
HTTP
tcp
80
80
0.0.0.0/0
to the Default security group.
I think this should be added to the install instructions.

Can-do
We currently have a note to "be sure your security settings are sane", but for people new to EC2 this doesn't really explain what that's all about. We will definitely add these to the instructions.
