Hopefully i am not repeating a question, but i have not found this same issue in my searches thus far.
The site in question is live, it is set up as multisite but we are only using one domain. Since everything worked well on my local installation and the testing server, I saw no reason to change the setup.
About four days after the site went live, the domain, (http://www.trishopsantacruz.com) suddenly came up with a 404 "page not found" error, dispalyed niely in my theme. When I clicked to http://www.trishopsantacruz.com/home the hoem page came up just fine, and i could get into the admin just fine. When I logged out again, the domain worked.
A few days later this happened again. I checked the settings.php file in the domain folder and made sure the base URL was set to http://www.trishopsantacruz.com. After making this change, the site worked fine.
A few days later it happened again. I searched the issue and found a suggestion to rebuild the permissions in the content admin, which I did. This had no effect.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? it does not make any sense to me and I have exhausted the extent of my own logic.
Thank you,

It does sound like it may be more related to node permissions somehow (a very thorny system) than the multi-site system…

Ah yes, thorny indeed! The main difference between this and the other drupal sites I have launched was the multisite setup, so I assumed it had to do with that. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll go look in that direction!
