Who'd be up for a Drupal uncamp?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Here's my thought:

This would more technical and for more advanced users and we'll be playing with Drupal 8.

It would be either a half- or full-day get together at Belmar Library. I'd prefer to plan for a full day.

We'd meet on a Saturday (my preference), but we could choose a different day (maybe a Friday?) based on interest. Note that the library is open only from 12 - 5 on Sundays. (http://jefferson.lib.co.us/locations/belmar-library)

I'll reserve a meeting room. (It's free)

Belmar Library Meeting Room
555 S. Allison Pkwy, Lakewood
Capacity: 71
Equipment available: chairs, tables, mini-kitchen, conference board, projection screen, lectern, easel tack strip

We can fire up instances on Pantheon and break into groups of 4 - 5 people to bang on things like writing custom modules and building custom themes. Maybe some groups would work with the Drupal console (https://drupalconsole.com/, https://www.drupal.org/project/console) or Composer setups. We'll sort out all that stuff during the first hour-ish of the morning.

We'll break for lunch whenever we decide. There are plenty of food options very near the library:
Chipotle
Noodles, Smash Burger, Live Basil Pizza
Buffalo Wild Wings
King Soopers
Carl's Jr & Green Burrito
Panda Express
Chick-fil-A
Whole Foods
Panera
Firehouse Subs

Feedback?

KeyboardCowboy's picture

Did you get any feedback on this? I think this is a great idea. I wonder how much visibility this groups page actually gets.

You're the winner!

@KeyboardCowboy

You are the first one to give any response to this. I'm happy to do the uncamp with just four of us, which means we'd need just two more. Heck, just for the sake of following through, I'd be happy for the two of us to meet. Let's push forward with making plans.

Do you have channels on which you'd like to advertise this? I've been heads-down on other things and have not been in IRC for a LONG time. But, I'd be happy for you to bring it up in #drupal-colorado.

Would you like to aim for something in June?

I'm interested

I would also be interested, although I have not had any experience with Drupal 8 (or Pantheon) yet. If that's OK I'd like to attend?

I would be interested. I'm

I would be interested. I'm pretty new to Drupal and haven't looked at 8 yet. Heading to drupalCon next week though and most of the sessions focus on 8 so that might help.

Looks like we've got a group!

@jutulen and @leo.pongan.ubm, it would be lovely to have you. Drupal 8 is new to all of us. I can get you up to speed on Pantheon pretty easily. Do you have version control installed on your machine? What operating system do you use?

I'm on a Macbook Air with the latest version of OS X and use Git for version control.

Pantheon will be no problem for you

It will be a snap to get you running on Pantheon with your setup.

We've been doing a series of monthly meetings on D8 in the South Denver Drupal Meetup, but the camp idea sounds good. I'm definitely interested -- depends on the exact date -- but let me toss in my support!

I'm on a macbook too, but I

Really.

Let's start to narrow down dates

vegantriathlete's picture

I'd rather aim for sooner rather than later. I think pushing for a date in May is too tight. For how many of you would June be a good option? I'll be out of town the last weekend of June. The first three Saturdays (4, 11, 18) could still be options, pending availability of the meeting room.

attendance depends on the dates.

Belmar is not available on Saturdays

vegantriathlete's picture

I've checked in with the Belmar library and they tend to have things going on for at least a part of the day on Saturdays. Would people be open to doing this on a Friday instead? Or would people prefer that I contact other libraries in Jefferson County?

A Friday might actually work

robbneu's picture

A Friday might actually work better for me, but as I said before, my June is a mess. I don't want anyone making decisions based around my schedule if I can't commit.

Are you thinking this would happen earlier in the month or later? I could probably make June 17th or July 1st.

Robb

Friday is probably better for

Friday is probably better for me as well.

No Fridays in June at Belmar are available

vegantriathlete's picture

I have followed up with the library to see if June 24, 17 or 10 was available and struck out. Saturdays in July were already ruled out previously.

I can look at other libraries, although I think Belmar is the most convenient.

I believe that there is a Drupal Camp Colorado in August; I don't want to run too late into July and get too close to the camp.

Maybe we should look at Belmar on a Friday in the Fall?

Just wanted to let my interest be known as well. Will there be a meetup or facebook event created for this to start gathering rsvp's and interest? Thanks.

Ray James

No date, yet

vegantriathlete's picture

I don't understand how I can create either of those without having a date set. Also, whom do I contact to create the Meetup and Facebook event?

Meetup

rayjames's picture

You can suggest a new meetup here - http://www.meetup.com/drupal-colorado/ and click on suggest a meetup. You can suggest a meetup before having a date and place and you can also suggest a meetup just by being a member of that meetup, they leave it open like that. Then, share that link back here and we can rsvp. Cool?
