Learning Sites - Purpose and Examples
The purpose of a Learning Site is to present interactive courses and lessons.
A Learning Site can be a "cash cow" for retiring consultants and trainers and others who want to monetize their life's work online so they can enjoy their retirement. These folks are usually not adept at using technology, so a team of three is a good beginning for such an enterprise:
-
Site Builder (Builds the site and trains the Producer in how to add and manage the content on the site) Probably you.
-
Producer (Adds and manages the content on the site) Probably someone they already know (i.e. an assistant, possibly their spouse, or a student intern could be employed).
-
Content Provider(s) (Provides the raw materials for the courses and lessons) Probably the consultant him/herself (or up to several, if the client is a company of multiple consultants/trainers).
Drupal Distributions - Examples:
-
https://www.drupal.org/search/site/opigno - Learning Management System (LMS) ready to go out-of-the-box.
-
https://www.drupal.org/search/site/elms - also see https://www.elmsln.org, or for a one-page (more technical) overview https://psu.app.box.com/s/3318wac7ob987bxpwb2olf1fv8uskauy
-
For a comparison of education distributions see: https://www.drupal.org/node/1611502 However I would note that these distributions are purposed for presentation and (except ELMs) do not include any actual course/lesson building tools, or spaces/areas for learners.
