Organizers:
Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

This is a follow up meeting to our first values discussion on February 6th.

Overall Background: We are meeting to discuss our conference and organization values. Goals include that begin to craft a mission-statement and define a set of core values that we, as a group, can use as a guide for all future decisions regarding our annual conference, and other sponsored events.

This Meeting: Let's build on our initial discussion about what TCDrupalCamp and the local community means, to us, and continue to define our core values. We did some initial brainstorming. Now let's start to narrow our values to a select core, and think about how we can craft those into mission statement.

Where: Electric Citizen, 4306 Bryant Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409 and by Google Meet (URL to be posted later).

Thanks to everyone who attended last night. Some meeting notes to share:

AGENDA:
After a quick check-in on DrupalCamp 2019 planning, we jumped into the values discussion again. Given the time committments of Twin Cities Drupal Camp, and a short number of months until the conference, it was decided that our focus should narrow from defining values about our group year-long, we would instead focus on the values of our annual conference (camp) instead.

--------

We brainstormed on some idea of the core value statements and mission of the annual Twin Cities Drupal Camp. Ideas are listed below.

Camp Value Statements: BrainStorm Idea list

  1. Promote the use of Drupal in the Twin Cities
  2. Promote the hobbiest to gain pro skills.
  3. Give the web professional other perspectives, ideas, case studies
  4. Bring together developers from local community and region to network, in general
  5. Provide opportunities for job seekers, job providers, and peoples to network.
  6. Look for opportunities for Drupal to be used for good in the community
  7. Constant Improvement. Analyze processes. Welcome feedback.
  8. Provide opportunities to connect with other open source communities.
  9. Educating and teaching people about what can be done with Drupal
  10. Career opportunities with Drupal
  11. How to contribute back to Drupal (open source)
  12. Reach out to communities that are under represented in Drupal
  13. Provide a low cost camp / low cost opportunities
  14. Provide a volunteer run camp, not corporate or profit driven
  15. Provide an opportunity for speaking/public presentations to new speakers
  16. Produce an awesome event, with content and opportunities for all skill levels.
  17. Provide a fun and safe camp for all people and that is inclusive and diverse
  18. Grow our audience of camp attendees over time, stay vital and vibrant. Or to meet a threshold that allows us to meet all our goals/. Plan for a capacity and aim for that.
  19. Promote the sharing of knowledge over bringing in speakers.
  20. Celebrate the contribution of volunteers (nurture and feed)
  21. Promote the interaction of people in the Drupal community, local and national

  • Openness
  • Welcoming
  • Community-oriented
  • Non-judgemental
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Approachable
  • Encourage Diversity
  • Providing opportunities for learning
  • Self Improvement
  • Safety
  • Open Source
  • Sharing
  • Fun
  • Empowering
  • Gratitude
  • Impactful / Relevant
  • Sustainable

--------

TLDR;
We really found a lot of energy talking about the types of sessions, and diversity of speakers, in our next camp. This made us rethink how much emphasis we will place on sessions for camp, and the process of encouraging speakers, topics, and selection committee. We could use our new value-based statements as a guide for this process.

--------

NEXT STEPS:

1) Take these statements and work on specific topics such as session selection, pricing, and whether we have 2 days of sessions vs unconference day
2) Welcome additional feedback and input from our community
