A Drupal User Group for Idaho...

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I've recently learned of a 3rd Drupaller in my area so it seems now would be an appropriate time to put together a Drupal User Group for southwestern Idaho. (When it was just two, it didn't make sense to organize meetings since I sit across the room from the other guy!)

Dries (Drupal's project lead) recently made a post to Drupal.org seeking for info about best practices for local user groups. A number of folks have posted comments there. Perhaps that would be a good place for us to start, in considering what we want this group to do/be.

Preliminary meeting

Anyone with thoughts on the where/when for a preliminary meeting to discuss the particulars of ?

dbaker has knowledge of the services provided by some area libraries. Any that have affordable meeting space with wi-fi?

Library Options

Ada Community Library (my current employer) has a free meeting room available, but currently wi-fi is not available on the lower floor where the meeting room is located.

Boise Public Library has one room available on a first-come, first-serve basis (holds 8 people). I believe there is wi-fi access available, though I don't know for sure.

I'll have to look into seeing what the other Treasure Valley libraries offer, but I'm not optimistic about the availability of wi-fi at any of the others.

Food?

A library would be ideal for presentations, but a someplace that served food and drinks might be better for comradary (sp?). I've never been to a Drupal group before, so I don't know if it's a bad idea, but we could probably reserve a room in a pizza place, or a sushi place, or some kind of diner. But a library space sounds good, too. Does this library of which you speak allow food?

If you don't mind coming out to Meridian, there is The Library Coffee House. They have a small meeting room that I've used for another organization that I'm involved with. The best part is that the room and the WiFi is FREE!

The Library Coffee House sounds great! Let's try that.

Now, as for the when...

My kids are just going back to school so that means a few weeks of adjusting to the new schedule. I'm guessing others may be in similar circumstances.

And the Boise Web Technologies meet-up is happening on Sept 13th, with a Drupal presentation by someone not (yet :)) a part of this group. So how about we wait until after that and maybe shoot for early to mid October for our first meeting?

I've been to the Library for some open mics. It's a nice place. I don't think I've seen the room you mentioned, though.

Since the place is a converted house, I would say that this room was the dining room. It's on the west side of the house, next to the kitchen. It has a table with seating for about 6, plus a couple more chairs in the corners. It would be a little tight for a big presentation, but for a small gathering it's pretty good.

I think they have another room towards the back of the house that can be used for meetings also, but I haven't seen it.
