Bay Area Drupalers unite! BADCamp is taking place on November 3 and 4th, 2007 at the UC Berkley campus. Following in the tradition of DrupalCampNY, DrupalCampLA and the original BarCamps this is a fun, free, open event where everyone is encouraged to participate, share and learn together.
There are currently 200 registered attendees and 36 proposed sessions (Note: the session proposal period ends Sunday the 21st). There will be presentations, open table discussions, lightning talks and more ranging from Getting started - planning and maintence overview by Steven Peck, Discussion about Usability by Neil Drum, to Performance and Caching with Drupal by Steve Rude and much more!
Update: Six weeks after we opened registration, and after two capacity increases, we are maxed out with 200 attendees. Promises to be a grand time.
See you there!

A good question about the name...
http://www.workhabit.org/workhabit-in-september-and-beyond
Hey, some guy name Kent Bye posted an interesting comment on our blog about the name:
I told him I would make you aware, in case it's still a consideration. I think he has a point worth mentioning.
I agree with Kent
I had seen the name BADCamp somewhere, but did not associate with Drupal and passed over it until seeing the posting here about "some guy name Kent Bye" (that's too funny!). I think BADCamp is a cool name, but confusing.
Looking forward to this!

I think I'm to blame :(
IIRC I came up with the name "BADCamp" - Bay Area Drupal Camp. I generally agree that we should stick to some sort of naming convention (I won't argue that we are by using BADCamp - although I can't help a good parenthetical comment). The only thing that I would hold onto is that this ain't "SFDrupalCamp" - it is in Berkeley and is focused on the entire Bay Area. San Francisco is a nice town and everything - but we've got Bay Area Pride to think of! If there is to be a name change I would make it "BayAreaDrupalCamp" (or uhhh.... BADCamp :) ).
my vote would be Drupal Camp
my vote would be Drupal Camp Bay Area since it's not in SF. and it seems like most of the drupal camps have put the city name last.
DrupalCampSFBA
I am feeling ambivalent about the name. BADCamp is the most fun of the names, but I agree that it is not as clear as DrupalCampSF (which was the original suggestion, and follows the current naming convention, ie: DrupalCampNY, DrupalCampLA). DrupalCampBA is more accurate, but not as iconic (people know what SF stands for). DrupalCampSFBA (DrupalCamp San Francisco Bay Area) is even more accurate, but kind of ugly.
Also, I have just put a ton of work into the current site, which was fun, but I am not feeling much like redoing it. So, if someone feels strongly enough on the issue that they are willing to register a domain name with one of those alternate names (ei: drupalcampsf.org, etc), get it pointed to my server, and then scrub the current site to change the name, I will go along with it.
One more thing...
I would suggest that you include the quantity of people you are bringing to your registration process. I plan to bring a guest, but I didn't see a place to put that in registration.

Can you have your guest register
My understanding is that there are upper limits to the number of people we can have at the event. If someone registers and doesn't show up this means that someone else who wants to come may not be able to get in. How about having your guest register?
125 people
Right, I should probably mention on the site somewhere that registration is capped at 125 people. Please have your guest register.
Unfortunate timing
This crosses over with The Drupal newspaper unconference which I've already discussed attending.
Drat!
I wish they had put that on the g.d.o calendar. Reserving this much space on campus is a pain, and it fills up fast. I think we are committed to the dates at this point. I was really hoping you'd be able to present.
I'm +1 for moving to another date
Well, considering that I'd really like to attend, and i'm not around that weekend, consider this a +1 for moving to another date.
Yeah, i know it's not very likely though. :)
Agreed. Wish we'd caught it
Agreed. Wish we'd caught it earlier.
Tao, can we reschedule for one week later?
Yea, that's a serious conflict...
Unfortunately I won't be able to go if it's a conflict between the journalism event and this. I promised I would go to the journalism event in Reno already (my bad, didn't have it on my new Google for Domains account - ak!).
Can we move it one week back? Even if we have to find a new space, I'm sure Google or Yahoo or another big valley company might come through for us if we ask them nicely.

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead
I know there are concerns about the name and about the date, but at this point we have the space reserved, we have the website setup, and we already have 26 people registered. So I think we are just going for it, as is.
I had a nice talk with Kevin Reyen, and there might be some room to maneuver on his part, but I also think both events can happen without hurting each other too much. And hopefully this just the first of many San Francisco/Bay Area drupal camps.
Onward and upward!
Yeah BadCamp
Thanks Starbow - am looking forward to it. Love the name, BadCamp.

Registration cap now at 200
We have been able to increase the registration cap to 200 people, which is good, since we passed the 125 cap a couple of weeks ago.
Any interest in Drupal for Iphone?
There was the start of a module on this but it seemed really incomplete. Anyone interested in it?
OT: There's a group for Drupal + iPhone
I just noticed this earlier:

Please help me choose a topic to present
I'd love to be at the Drupal + newspapers conference myself, but I've got a conflict on Saturday, anyway. However, that means I'll be able to attend BADCamp on Sunday. There are quite a few things I could talk about, so please help me decide what I should present so that it'll be interesting to people who'd actually want to come. ;)

Drupal + Newspaper Conference was canceled
By-the-way the Drupal + Newspaper Conference was canceled. And not because of competition from us.
BAD Camp and Raincity Radio podcasts ...
For the record ... I dig the name BadCamp and find a logical leap to Bay Area Drupal Camp.
I'll be heading down with some Raincity Studios drupalists to do some learning and podcast interviews for Raincity Radio - anyone who has a compelling idea for a recording be sure to hook up at the event or hit me at dave (at) raincitystudios (dot) com.

Wished I could have come to this....
I am half-way new to the world of Drupal. As a developer for a an engineering college at a CSU campus I thought this would have been a good way to help give back and learn from people in the BA who are using drupal as well.
Any plans for future events?
