Rally Call, Get off your butt!!!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

While Drupal Dinners are fun, it doesn't' really allow for people to help each other. I know we are all busy but we need to get more organized.

VENUE

We need a location, preferable centrally located. We used to have them on the north side, the facility was great but it's a 30/45 min drive for the southsiders.

I know we have some IUPUI contacts in our group, perhaps in a classroom? Or if someone that works downtown can talk their boss (or if you are the boss) into allow us to use a conf room.

Topics

This is what you can present for what you want to learn. Let's be in depth here. We've had "lightening round sessions" before but I don't think they work. Whatever topic we have, it will be the "topic of the night" and we will go in depth. We have a lot of knowledge here in Indy and I know we will be able to fulfill any topic.

Branch Out

While most of us are developers or site builder (or are we), we can focus on business topic also. "Why do I use Drupal", "Why is saved my project x billion dollars" :)

Committee

Instead of having a person or 2 do all of the work, let's create a committee to plan and execute the meet ups. More people involved means that more will happen.

"I don't have time to be on the committee" Bull, we can meet virtually (skype, irc, phone, video, email, pm software).

This is the rally call, let's get things moving!!!!

If you would like to be part of the organization committee then place add a comment saying so and you will be added to the list.

I'm game.

I'll help plan...though I'm not the person to ask about venues as I just moved here. Topics, food, and other organizational tasks are fine, though. :)

We've got a class room space at our office, but it's not as central as downtown. |Here's a link

We'd have to find a projector, though.

@dudenhofer, how many people

@dudenhofer, how many people does your room support?

Room for 20 people. We could

I've talked to Doug a little bit about this - I've got a classroom/conference room at IUPUI that holds about 15 and a projector that can be used. I'll have to schedule well in advance and parking is not ideal. I can also book larger meeting rooms at the Campus Center for a nominal fee.

The 2nd coming of the Indiana Drupal Users Group

Neil,
Thnx for the Call To Action! [As a result of your admonishment, I kicked a few things into action and added two VENUES to the list in your post. I hope to have an announcement soon about one of them]
I remember very well the day I met with you at the coffee shop way down in Greenwood where encouraged you to get more involved in the community. You made quite the drive to the NW-side meetings and really got involved after that. I don't take all the credit. You hooked up with other INDY Drupalers and things just took off. Seriously... I'm very excited as I type this.

That is exactly why Aaron and I started this group in January of 2008. Even though Aaron will tell you that the group has been a launching pad for practically everything he does today. I want to hear more stories like this. Many of us want to hear them as well.

When the NW-Side [THNX TONY!] started to slow down late 2009 we came to the point where the same 4 or 5 of us were always showing up. We took a LONG winter break. While I was spending more time across the country, Aaron [THNX DUDE!] started up the highly successful dinners. I've made all but one, I think. For me, making connections is easy. Leave me stranded on an island and I'll have a "Stranded On an Island" group formed within weeks. Thus, even the dinners have created other opportunities for me. But we all know that we need something more. [But DON'T lose the dinners altogether!]

The questions of VENUE, TOPICS, & LEADERSHIP are essential. Neil, you hit it on the head when raised these three. My attempts to form a small leadership group failed but that was long long ago. I just added my name to your post under Committee Volunteers. Its AWESOME to see people energetic and proactive about this. We didn't have this back in the day.

I need to pack up and check out of my hotel after the tremendously successful www.CMSExpo.net But I have lots more to say about this.

Thank you Neil, Aaron, Susan and Ali. I suspect we may be able to muster up some more names to add to the list.

Add me to the list of volunteers to help out. I've been so bored lately I need something to jump back into.

Remote

sdudenhofer's picture

Wonder if some ability to connect remotely could be added. Its not as easy for me to get to Indy any more but I would definitely connect remotely. Doesn't need to be anything to fancy, maybe a skype session or ustream....
