Linking Different Content Type

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi All,

Would like to ask for opinion and suggestion on the module to use for linking, parenting, referencing (or whatever people called it) two different nodes.

For example, you have a node type called business for where you will have fieldset for the business like address, phone, fax etc
and you have another node type called photo where you will have the pictures of the business.

questions:
1. to link both node type (business, photo) together and able to display as a tab.
2. to upload images to the nodes with best that allow batch upload and place caption (title) to it.

I recently built a site

I recently built a site where we had one supplier that had several distributors. My suppliers is one content type and my distributors another.

I'm using the nodereference to connect the nodes together and that seems to work fine.

Was that answer to your question?

More useful modules to use with CCK nodereference

Foodster's picture

Really, hope that someone could find this thread useful.

Thanks for the reply, because of your help and i have also found some other modules that work well with the nodereference to enchance the experience with it.

Nodereferrer Create - http://drupal.org/project/nodereferrer_create - Add tabs to existing nodes to create new related nodes. By creating nodes in context, the user avoids having to select the referenced node manually.

Multiselect - http://drupal.org/project/multiselect - This module defines a widget to be used with the nodereference CCK field type. It allows the user to select multiple items in an easy way. It consists of two lists, one of unselected items, the other of selected items. The user can select an item by moving it from the unselected list to the selected list.

Referenced By Views Filter - http://drupal.org/project/ReferencedByFilter - The main purpose of this module is to allow the creation of pagers from referenced nodes. For example, in your Album content type you have a node reference to 5 photos. You would like that only one photo per page will appear and a pager. Without this module it isn't possible as the pager will refer to the base node, not to the referenced nodes.

not so related to my case, but related to nodereference and may be useful for others

Taxonomy Search Module - http://drupal.org/project/taxonomySearch - Allows a user to use a taxonomy heirarchy to pre-select a list to be used as a select list (e.g. drop down). The Taxonomy Search Widget is an addon widget to the nodereference field type. It allows the admin to set up a taxononmy vocabulary that the user can select from to limit the node selection to only those nodes tags with a specific taxonomy term. It uses AJAX to update the selection widget.

Views Fusion - http://drupal.org/project/views_fusion - Views Fusion allows one to fuse multiple views into one. So you can build fusioned views that display information that is stored in multiple nodes - useful for tabular views. It uses node relations for joining the appropriate nodes together.

and on top of that, i think this could be useful for directory which has parent and child as per the description
Node Relativity - http://drupal.org/project/relativity - The module allows parent-child relationships between nodes to be established, managed and searched. You can restrict the types of nodes that can be parented and the ordinality of parents. These are used to contextually create links to add new child nodes or attach existing ones. There is also a navigation block that uses a node's ancestry to list out breadcrumb-style links.

Node Reference, Views and Node Referrer

One nice combination is Node Reference, Views and Node Referrer. Node Reference is used to build node relationships on a per-node basis, Views displays the relationships, and Node Referrer makes it easy to add new nodes from the original node.

I don't think this really answers the questions you asked, though. Unfortunately, I'm not sure anyone can answer them without hearing more about the project. For example, are you envisioning a "business" node with a "Photo" tab that displays related photos? Do you want images as nodes (in which case you can use Image Import for bulk uploading) or a CCK solution with Imagefield?

Thanks for your reply, I

Thanks for your reply, I believe that you're referring to node referrer create right?

On the second question, you're right about what i wanted to do, which is like what you mentioned "envisioning a "business" node with a "Photo" tab that displays related photos? "

Question: Can i still use view module to display "business" node and "photo" as tabs because i would like to theme the look of the business node (using the templete overide)

Do you want images as nodes (in which case you can use Image Import for bulk uploading) or a CCK solution with Imagefield?

I planning to design it as a node. As that will give more functionality, such as voting, comment or review. This relates to the first question i asked where linking both content types together. As far as i know that, i can't use cck imagefield if i wanted to have it as nodes right? I opened to any suggestion, or perharps you think that it should not be as a nodes, post your opinions and views.

Along these lines

I have been trying to figure out how to use nodereferrer_create but there doesn't seem to be any docs about it. This would or could be exactly what I am looking for.

I have a node type called products created by a user, other users view the product nodes and then I was hoping to have a tab on that node that would create a referrer node. Kind of a Parent and child relationship.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated..

Lots of great information.
Thanks for the list of modules (Eugene B).
Sorry about posting with no additional material to add....

Is there any way to subscribe to a thread other than by replying?
Thanks,
Andrew
