There has been quite a bit of interest in another Adelaide meetup, so after a little organising, I'm happy to announce that its on!
I've booked the Earl - http://www.earl.com.au/ - Who will let us use their upstairs room free if we have 6 or more people coming to the Bistro for dinner first.
I've tentatively booked a table for 6, and the room for the 5th of August at 6:30pm.
Rough agenda:
6:30pm - 8:00pm - dinner @ The Earl Bistro
8:00pm - whatever - General Drupal discussion, issues, questions, pingers will probably present some geo taxonomy concepts on the night
If you are interested in Drupal and are Adelaide based, please sign up.
We can easily expand the dinner booking for more, and there is plenty of space in the upstairs room so come along!
If we do not have 6 attendees signed up by next Monday, then we will probably have to cancel or find a different venue, so don't hold back ;-)

Darn - I won't be in Adelaide
Darn - I won't be in Adelaide during the week of August the 5th. However, I will be back the week after - let me know if you can alter the date, otherwise have fun!
Cheers.
Well, if we don't get some
Well, if we don't get some signups before Monday, we'll have to cancel/re-schedule anyway.
Cmon Adelaidians!

Oh well, I didn't see this post until now, but I'm willing to attend. If not 5th Aug, let's try another day then.
Cheers
Still taking signups, and I
Still taking signups, and I think we'll go ahead, just might not be enough to get the room upstairs this time, but doesn't stop us from having a nice schnitzel, beer and some drupal chat, and organising the next one.

Have plans already in the CBD
Have plans already in the CBD at that time. Maybe another time. Parkside is a little bit out of the way for me anyway.
Looking forward to meeting you all
Would have been good to have some more bodies, but none the less looking forward to meeting some drupalers tomorrow
Ya gotta start somewhere!
Very cool to see a Drupal group starting (or restarting) in Adelaide.
I suggest you pick a day, and a central location, and stick to it regularly... this gives people certainty, and a chance to build it in to their routines. So whilst I bunch of people can't make it tonight, if you stick to the 1st Thursday of the month, arrange for one member to talk about a topic, any drupal topic will do, then you've got all the ingredients for successfully bootstrapping a regular User Group. :)
Your next step is to actively seek out other Drupallers who may not frequent GDO. Local Drupal sites are a surprisingly good place to start. Contact the organisation that has a Drupal site, ask if they did it themselves or they employed an external web shop... and invite them along to the next meeting, or contact their web developers and invite them. :)
Good luck! If I'm ever in Adelaide again, I hope it coincides - I'd love to pop in. :)

Thanks
Just as an update, we did catch-up last Thursday and it was great to meet some other Drupal people in Adelaide. We will plan to run another one in the month or two and hope more people can come in the future.
P.S. if there are any Drupal developers hiding in Adelaide, there is certainly some work out for you :-). You just need to come along to our next meetup. We don't bite
Hey Sure... I would love this.
I have come across from Joomla Web design for clients etc, to now work on Drupal sites. I have been learning every night as well as listening to podcasts while working, Alasdair I love the system, and strive to learn more. I have tought friends Joomla with no issue as it is a passion. So learning as well as teaching would be a pleasure. Can we just start up a new site called Drupaladelaide, then use something in there for bookings and keeping in touch?
Hello
Hi All,
I new to Adelaide and Drupal (7months in on both) and am keen to connect with other local Drupaliers and maybe get involved in these social events. Is this the best place to check for events or is there a local community site ( or dare i say it) facebook or similar group for Adelaide.
Cheers
Another meet up
I think Drupal groups provides a good platform for us to engaged locally, moving to another would just complicate things.
Since the meet up we had on August 5, I have been in contact with 3 different drupalers in Adelaide. I'm keen to have another catch-up, we could make it the 1st Thursday of every month or bi-month e.g. 7 September or 7 October
Yes to a meetup fortnightly.
I started a small webdesigners group some time ago, and we used to meet up Sunday 11:00 for brunch to chat on new ideas, and help eachother out. We attempted weekday evenings, but it soon became scarce as most of us were too tired by the end of the day, allot of commitment, but allot of no show because of that. We used to meet in Norwood at caffe Buongiorno and also scuzzy in Rundle street. It was a good quiet and relaxed atmosphere. A good idea will be to all group up with skype contact if you are not comfortable to use facebook.
Nomisg, I hope we can get to meet up in the next meeting. Unfortunately I work in Salisbury as a manager, live in westlakes, get home late each day, baby on way... etc etc. Weekends are my only spare time to relax and enjoy the company of like minded designers. My beautiful wife never understands me when I jabber on about HTML, image editing and cms. She just sees the bill at the end of each month when I buy all my book, magazines, subscriptions etc.. :)
I'm not around on the 7th of
I'm not around on the 7th of October, but the 14th would be good for me at the same Venue.
That interest anyone, if so, I'm happy to book it. Doing so now will give a lot more time for people to sign up ;-)
Or nomisg, Did you want to organise for another possible venue mentioned at the last one?

meetups
Hi all.
Its good to see active discussion in this forum.
my 2c...
Arranging social meets with a bunch of professionals is always difficult.
My call would be to make it regular on a fixed interval, once a month would be the minimum to make this work ( I would say once a week with no need to commit to showing up, cos people forget once a month, mind you if there's like 5 people total then might be a challeng.. id say catch up after work in adelaide for those in the city... ). I also think that it should be a fairly casual affair, ie no booking places etc unless there is a specific/special reason, this makes it much less of a burden on the organiser and less of a guilt trip for those that say they will be there but cant make it cos their boss, wife, husband, child kept them up all night sorting something and/or they don't feel like it any more.
so...
I reckon it should be central cos we probably all based our decision on where to live relative to the city and probably at a pub (or if once a month in a park at a bbq station for example at a set time (with an agreed bail if no one shows time).
If only 2 people show its still all good, we can complain how slack every one else is, sink a couple of lemonades ;) and or have a feed and off home. If more then its all good. I'd also say bring the missus and the kids, get em out of the house, I don't have kids, but I'm pretty sure I could talk the missus to go along at least once, our other halves might even get along.
Just ideas from that random that showed up in your forum yesterday..
PS. Happy Spring... I was told SA was a desert and it never rained, I guess yesterday it didn't. :P
Cheers
hey guys
count me in for the next meeting.

Thursday 14th works for me. The Kings sounds like as good a Pub as any, so long as we can talk.
I don't know if we're really ready for any formal presentations, but there's plenty to talk about given recent events (Drupalcon CPH).

chhpy001 is able to do the 13th of October after having a chat to him. I need to fly to Sydney on Thursday so the 14th does not suit me.

Thursdays would be better for me, but I can come for dinner and a while on the Wed, so just book it in for this month and announce it.
You will never get everyone all the time, lets get things happening regularly, then tweak the time/date a bit more once we've got some more attendance.
