Does i18n Fail with Aggressive Caching?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

If you're not a native English speaker doing Drupal, then the i18n module is probably the only way. This is why it seems very strange to me that the performance admin page says that i18n might not work with aggressive caching.

I find it hard to believe that multilingual drupal sites scale worst or harder than sites with one language.

scale worst/hard = scale without advanced caching

Is there anyone with experience using the i18n with aggressive caching?

Most high performance sites are using either Boost or external caching like Varnish, rather than aggressive caching. I think i18n can still work with aggressive caching as long as you aren't using browser language detection and rely only on URL path prefixing or domain name.

As far as I understand in order to use Varnish you need PressFlow and "External-mode caching", which again complaints about i18n (as in the case of "aggresive caching"). Am I correct?

I have yet to use Varnish on

I have yet to use Varnish on an i18n site, but I know that other people have. You can even use browser language negotiation by including the language string in the hash.

I should add that the

I should add that the "complaints" with aggressive/external caching just mean that the modules in question implement hook_boot and/or hook_exit and these hooks will not be executed with these cache settings. That may or may not be a problem, you need to dig into the code and see what the module is doing there and whether or not your specific configuration is impacted.
