Does anyone know of a shared host (inexpensive) that will give You a folder out side the web root? So i can upload our pdf's and videos into, to secure. It's for a continuing ed site.
Thanks,

One solution
I use 1&1 hosting and I can make sub directories and use those as the root for my domains. I can go as many levels deep as I want. Basic package I think are under $5/month

Dreamhost does. Their package
Dreamhost does. Their package includes most services you'd want from a shared hosting plan:

Shared Hosting Providers
Both bluehost.com and he.net provide this. Bluehost's budget packages aren't really suitable for a large drupal install due to the way they do rate limiting and sql query size limits. I like it for small stuff and proof of concept type things. It's a good place to start small and cheap. He.net is great, the only cavet is once you buy in to a package you stay at that rate AND software versions unless you upgrade. That means that you may have to upgrade (which is painless) to get a newer MySQL and PHP version in order to upgrade drupal. He.net is rock solid. I think you only get one database as well. Some people dislike the fact that they don't have admin tools, "only" giving you command line access, but I see that as an advantage!
