Drupal training

This is to see what sort of interest there may be in the South Florida community for setting up training programs for Drupal in South Florida. Personally, I'd be interested in teaching a theming workshop and an introduction to Drupal for those of you just starting out.

If you're interested in setting up a workshop, please post to this thread. If you know someone that's interested that's just starting to explore Drupal, please forward this post or encourage them to join the Miami group.

Thanks!

I'm very interested in Drupal training.

I'm very interested in Drupal training. Since I'm new right now, I'd lean more toward wanting an introduction class but would be interested in a theming class once I'm more comfortable with the basics.

I'm interested too

I need theming and security training; not at the basic level really. More intermediate already.

I have the basics down so would probably be considered an intermediate user, but we don't know what we don't know so any level of training would be beneficial. Definately would like to learn theming and customization so I could begin creating sites that have a different look & feel from the default Drupal themes & layouts.

I am definately intersted in

I am definately intersted in a theming workshop. I would be driving down from Tampa though, so the time/date would really have to work out. But I might be able to get some more Tampa Drupalers to car pool. We are having a Tampa meeting on 1 March, so if you have the date/time set by then, we can discuss it at our meeting. Since I would be coming down the I-75, a Plantation or Fort Lauderdale location between 11-4 pm would be optimal for me, but I'm flexible. :)

Added 19 Feb - I agree with Ultimike, the Florida Drupal Group should be more active. Also, West Palm would be a good location for me (3 hrs 45 min drive).

Any idea on date/time?

I'm interested, depending on what date is decided. I'd be coming from Orlando.

Can you provide date ranges?

Thanks, all.

I'd like to teach

liberatr's picture

I'm sure there's always more to learn - especially with newer systems like Drupal 6 and new modules, but I also want to point out I've started posting some tips and answering questions at a site called DrupalEasy.com

One thing that's great to teach is how to track down answers to your questions - this isn't always easy, especially if you're new to Drupal.

I also live in Orlando if people are interested in something more local or private tutoring and consulting.

Interested from Tampa

Hi,

I am in for just about anything having to do with drupal. I could give an introduction (from a user's perspective) to CCK and views, and use of Taxonomy for SEO purposes. Maybe we can do a monetary collection and bring somebody to teach module development.

interested...but

I think there's a lot of interest in a more active Florida Drupal group - I know the guys in Tampa have had some meetups and we've even had one in Orlando. Perhaps we can split the distance and do something around West Palm in the future - I think we might be able to get a pretty good group together.

As a full-time independent Drupal developer, I'd be willing to give a talk on module development or whatever else is on everyone's radar. If there's anyone who is a designer who would like to know more about theming, I could give a talk on that as well - we need more Drupal themers!

Date/Location for Drupal Training?

Jackezel's picture

Still interested in attending the South Florida Drupal Training - but would like to get a date and location set before this weekend so we can discuss it at our Tampa Drupal meeting.

Since there isn't anything posted yet, I'll throw out a suggestion to start the discussion:

Date: 15 March - Saturday
Time: 12:00-1600 - Need 3-4 hours to drive to/from Tampa
Location: West Palm - at a local library, coffee shop, etc.

My super powers don't extend that far

modulist's picture

I can get us a conference room and help in our office park south of Miami, but my sphere of influence doesn't extend to West Palm, unfortunately...

I also wouldn't rule out some of us from the studio doing a drive to Tampa or Orlando and doing a workshop up there (less fossil fuel burned, anyway).

From the sounds of things, there should be two workshops offered:

1) a discussion of Drupal architecture and security for intermediate users
2) a theming/site building clinic for more advanced users

I'm definitely interested in doing a training session after DrupalCon, preferably on a Saturday morning. The studio has a ton of prep to do for DrupalCon, so we may have to save this discussion for the second week of March.

Also, to keep them up to a decent standard, we would be charging for the sessions. This would help us in getting a good curriculum together and a good venue.

@modulist

I'm interested

Count Me In

As a full time drupal / web developer I would also be interested in more training / meetups / workshops in Florida. Specifically anything on the intermediate level would be of great interest. I am in the Tallahassee area but am willing to travel. Also if any events need sponsors, help or all around assistance just be in touch.

Peace
Marc
