Howdy.
I just wanted to alert people who are interested in doing video/media work on Drupal that I've finally had the time to put together some of the tie-ins that make it possible to create some pretty remarkable video functionality. Using media_mover to do transcoding of uploaded videos, xspf_playlist to build dynamic playlists, and flvmediaplayer to render the player, we can now have a video player which not only plays user uploaded content, but can both recommend content based on a views or play a list of content generated by a view. FLV Media Player will let you take the player and embed it in a page off site if desired. Further, you can use a dynamic configuration file for the player which allows you to alter the appearance and behavior of embedded players already deployed in the field.
What this means is that you can create channels or push content. You can setup bumper content to feed the player before a user watches the specified content. You can setup user or taxonomy based feeds to display particular kinds of content. I've started to build some examples on the Media Mover site which demonstrates how this works.
I'll hopefully be presenting on this at DrupalCon and would love to meet up with other people interested in video/media and talk about how to improve complex media handling in Drupal. If you can't make it to DrupalCon, please feel free to chime in here. If you're interested in following along with some of the changes in these modules, check out my shameless self promotion.

nice!
I just wanted to quickly say that I'm very much interested in meeting up to talk about complex media handling in Drupal. I'm espescially interested in mobile and low bandwidth delivery/receiving of media, as many of the projects that I work on have users who do not have access to high-bandwidth internet, for good stretches of time.

I'm going to be helping with
I'm going to be helping with drupalcon video archiving, would love to take a break from that for a video bof.
Awesome!
I haven't worked much with putting videos on sites, but did some recent work playing around with the Flash Video module, and it got me thinking. Drupal really is ready to build amazing video sites, especially given all the integration you are saying is possible. I'm very interested in learning more, so your session better get approved! ;)
I like your "Pinky the cat" video a lot more. ;)

I have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard!
Seriously, great job on putting this all together and I know you'll do a great job presenting at DrupalCon.

Emfield and Media Mover...
Arthur- Aaron Winborn and I are about to get started with the emfield port to Drupal 6, and it would be great if we could figure out a way to make emfield work with Media Mover. We already get a lot of requests for additional flash player support, and hooking into another module that provides great working flash players, with lots of additional options and add-ons, seems like a better option then trying to go it alone. Aaron also brought up the idea of creating the capability to e-mail a movie to your site, have it upload to the third-party provider of your choice, and embed correctly on your own site. I'm sure there are lots of other potential areas where the capabilities you've built could be utilized by emfield, but even if it's not possible, this is a really exciting new direction for video hosting/sharing on Drupal sites!
Anyway, I'm really excited about this module and can't wait to meet up at DrupalCon! Just let us know where and when the meetup will be!

Let's make it happen!
I'd really like to work together to identify ways that we can build module interactivity that build off modules that are in the Drupal community- my guess is that this is the way that we can build stronger multimedia functionality for all of Drupal. Any help I can lend to emfield to utilize some of the stuff I'm working on I'm all for. FYI- media mover already supports transcoding from email (though the email gateway module needs to be built on of Drupal's mail helpers rather than its own) so that's already a possibility.
I haven't seen any scheduled time yet on the BoF I've proposed, but I'll post here if that changes. See you there!

As a long time
As a long time videoblogger/hacker I would love to meet up to talk about video handling in Drupal. Especially emfield and Drupal 6 sounds really hot. Pick a time and a place!
Ya cool! Media API
I'd like to meetup too, been doing work with dopry's media api sutff, which allows for videos as cck filefiled content.
Have been using the flashvideo module, but I wanted the video not have to be in the main file upload for the node.
Would love to meet up - I'm there all week
